Beautiful northeast Indiana lake, north of Kendallville. It's so hard to find Indiana lakes that aren't "muddy", due to the amount of clay throughout most of the soils. Big Long Lake, however, is an exception. The lake bottom appears to be more sandy (though weedy) while the lake water itself is crystal clear most of the time, as it is a spring-fed lake - one of Indiana's cleanest. Kayaking around the lake on a weekday, I found myself able to follow some of the fish just by looking into the water. Swimming was a delight. Weekends, the lake turns into a madhouse of speedboats, fast pontoons, souped-up john boats, tubers, skiers, and other gas-powered toys, resulting in lots of propeller-chopped weeds washing ashore, much of it replanting the pulled up roots. Fishing was pretty good, too! I pulled up a number of 10" or so Bluegill. Also caught my biggest largemouth bass right off the dock.

Went for pike. Caught 2 loss 1 and nailed (2) 4lb bass in back to back casts. But that was my buddy. I caught a cold because the wind was whipping. Great lake though. Lots of potential and amazing pike lake for sure. Bluegill are monsters i hear as well. No Karen on the docks yelling either. Always a plus. So thank you to the residents for allowing fisherman to fish in peace.
