FYI- This is not the spot with the store and location to buy food for the prairie dogs. It is an open field off an unpaved road with an area to park to get close up pictures of the critters. However it is a cool stop, if you have the time. Recommend to use insect repellent to avoid flea bites and don’t wear flip flops. There is a warning posted that these prairie dogs can transmit the Plague. Yes, that Plague.

This was a very nice stop on our long drive! Not only did we see prairie dogs, but LOTS of Bison and what looked like owls. The prairie dogs were so cute speaking in their little language. There were TONS of them running around from hole to hole. Would definitely recommend this stop to anyone passing by through the Badlands!

Kinda funny that they call this particular spot a prairie dog town. the entire area north of the road once in the park is like one big prairie dog town. it was super windy the day we were there so we didnt spend that much time outside. it was fun to watch the animals run around between the holes in the ground.

You’ll probably see more Prairie Dogs coming in the nearby park entrance than here but it was still neat nonetheless! Tons of buffalo near/on the road coming in. Be careful coming around the bends and over the hills. We had one chasing after our car for a sec that we didn’t see around a bend! Drive carefully.

100 perfect worth the to this location. Prairie Dogs literally everywhere with a splash of bison. Views are wonderful as well. If you have kids it's a must, but adults will enjoy it the same! Drove to this location in Thursday around 6 and there were very few other drivers around.
