The museum was established in June 7, 1939 by the King Carol II, as the Dinicu Golescu Museum and it has developed over the years with new basic exhibitions that reflect the family history and Argeş cultural and civilization history also.
Goleşti manor was built in 1640 by Stroe Leurdeanul with the aid of Stoica Craftsmen from Târgovişte, is the only building layed-fortified from the country. Knowing that those times were dangerous, Stroe is surrounding the manor with high brick walls and on the defense towers installed cannons. Thick walls, the frame floor, the monumentality, and its elegance too, prefigure the emergence of the builders of Brancoveanu’s period.

Read moreThis is quite likely the most amazing museum in the Argeș area, and there are a few to choose from. This particular place has an amazing blend of history and an old mansion, together with the (by my assessment) the biggest collection in Romania of traditional wooden houses drom the 19th and early 29th century. Some even from the 18th. The houses are decorated appropriately for the region they come from and most are open to visitors. They cover all of Romania's historical regions from as high North in Maramureș and Suceava to down South near the Danube and as far east as the Danube Delta to the west in Banat. It was so nice we went twice in a week, as in the initial 2 hours we felt we didn't absorb everything. And now after about 5 hours in it, feels we could have spent 5 more Highly recommended, amazing place only 15mn by train...
