Rătești Monastery — Attraction in Berca

This used to be an amazing place to visit for a Christian. Unfortunately, what I saw after 15 years since my last visit, were the ruins of that place that I still hold in my heart for what it meant to my childhood. I was incredibly sad to see the ruins of a once, beautiful place, where silence was at home, and a soul nourishing feeling was feeding your heart everywhere you walked inside the monastery. A lot of people here are complaining of the state in which the church is currently, but I'd like to say that I visited it a few months back and it is magical as it is. It is wonderful as it is, in its decayed state amd shares a story that you will not find anywhere. Cu o istorie impresionantă, inca inainte de 1600, din pacate in 2014 o alunecare de teren a distrus asezamintul. La sfârşitul secolului al XVI-lea, actuala aşezare monahală de la Răteşti, ctitorie a boierului Dragomir şi a soţiei sale, era doar un schit de călugări, având o biserică mică de lemn, închinată Sfintei Treimi. Prima menţionare a Schitului din Răteşti se păstrează din data de 6 mai 1634, când acesta este amintit într-un act de danie al monahului Sofronie de Gomeşti. Aşezarea monahală apare menţionată ca „schit” până în 1868. Potrivit documentelor, în anul 1752, locaşul monahal din Răteşti a fost părăsit, fie din pricina unor greutăţi ale vremii, fie din pricina lipsei de monahi. În anul 1760, schitul este reînfiinţat, ca urmare a donaţiei făcute de doi boieri, de acesta dată, schitul primind o obşte de maici.Biserica actuală „Sf. Treime” a fost ridicată în 1844 de Episcopul Chesarie al Buzăului și a fost pictată inițial în frescă de N. Teodorescu și Gheorghe Tattarescu. A fost repictată în ulei în 1930...
