Evanghelic C.A. Fortified Church Viscri — Attraction in Bunești

A moment of peace and quiet, that's what I received while visiting the fortified church. It has a stunning view over the beautiful mountains that you can see from the tower. Also you can enjoy the view of the traditional transylvanian village, where you can observe the traditional architecture (quite rare to see in Romania such a well preserved architecture), and by the time you move your eyes to see the whole panorama you can observe sheeps, cows, horses, everything that makes this place traditional and unique. You can also visit a museum with traditional objects that is located inside the fortress that will make this experience complete. Privelistea din turn este absolut superba, poti admira atât muntii cat si arhitectura traditional transilvaneana (mai rar asa locuri in Romania, din ce in ce mai putine locuri pastreaza atat de bine specificul locului). In timp ce iti misti privirea ca sa poti cuprinde toata frumusetea locului, poti observa oite, vaci, cai, cam tot ce trebuie pentru a intregi peisajul perfect tipic unui sat de munte traditional. De asemenea in interiorul fortaretei poti admira obiecte traditionale ceea ce da o unicitate...

If the GPS takes you to the dead end road off the main street with a large parking lot on your left and a horse farm in front of you with pointers showing the direction to the church (15 minutes on foot) drive anther half kilometer on the main street and you will see a conventional brown sign pointing to the the Biserica. Street parking is available.

Viscri Fortified Church is a UNESCO site and is the best of the UNESCO fortified churches. Not only it's an impressive edifice and fortification it's very well maintained which is rarely the case with Transylvania fortified churches. A nice lady selling the tickets would give you a brief overview. And you can get to almost every corner of the church including the bell tower...

There's no other way to get to the site than by a vehicle. There's a free parking lot a few hundred meters away from the entrance. You can get to the Church from there either by walking through the village or using the forest path behind the parking lot (shorter way). Church Viscri is a great example to understand the history of this area and how people had to transform temples into fortresses to guard themselves. However, within the last couple of years, the nearby village transformed into great infrastructure to accommodate tourists - b&bs, coffee shops, restaurant - and all of these places created with good taste and respectful of the surroundings.
