1 the food, the restaurant is simple but honest, you get the food that they have during that period of time, the menu focuses on the food according to fasting season and fish days which for me makes things more interesting as I get to focus more on the food quality. The bean soup was good (simple bean ciorba done in a very Romanian way for people that are fasting with no meat or dairy, perfect for vegans most of the time), we had the fried river trout which tasted the way it tasted in my childhood with a vegan garlic sauce (mujdei) and one very interesting thing I ate was the risotto with beetroot and hrean (forgot the translation) and potato pancakes with sesame seeds, the later were really amazing. The beetroot hrean salad needed to be more fiery but I like the strong flavour of hrean and the rissoto is hard to make without parmezan. The roze lemonade was absolutely amazing and would recommend it 10/10 and the mulled wine was perfectly spice. Happiness comes for food
The Sturdza domain is a nice park to walk through but the buildings next to it are from different periods and don't fit the style but it makes sense when you understand the full story.
For the full story go for the tour!!! The best tour guide i have experienced in Romania, he only speaks Romanian from what I could tell but it s definitely worth the translation. Don't forget to tip good guides that make you laugh are...
Read moreNot truly disliked it, but I did not find anything to like. I called ahead, none answered, but that did not bother me much, as I read other reviews about no call answering. Google Maps sent me in the village, but I received indication from a local person where to go. The pension was all occupied, because they had a group event. It was difficult to find a person from the reception, but a castle worker (renovation team, more on this in a bit) helped. So... No accommodation was available. I asked if I can go back the next day to visit the castle. The receptionist said yes, but pointed in the direction of the all-covered building, and said that there is not much to see, the castle is being renovated. It was a little dissapointing, because I went there after learning from a recent newspaper article about the existence of the place, and its beauty... showcased by pretty photos, which turned out to be outdated... The park with the road towards the castle is pretty though, and according to the roadsign there's also a monastery,...
Read moreInteresting place to visit, the forest surrounding the palace is clean and very beautiful. I have walked the long path from the entrance to the palace when i visited. It is build very nice, i do not know what style it is built. On the side of the manor there are some stone engravings in different ancient languages, some of them are in Latin, some appear to be related to Persian languages and some i have not figured out yet. The inside can be visited with a guide against a 15 lei fee (at the moment of this writing). Also there is a monastery with church that can be visited. Apparently the place is having sometimes different events with popular craftman from across the country, and they come with different products like honey, cheese, traditional clothes and pottery. It is a popular place among brides and grooms who want beautiful pictures from their wedding. The palace has its own events hall that you can rent for...
