Mediocre. Average. This how I can describe my experience going to durau waterfall. First of all if you re coming by car from bicaz via izvorul muntelui check the road situation as it can be closed. The first 25 km are under construction and the last 25 go through bents and hair pins. It's a challenging road. Once you'll get to durau check the panels at the salvamont point. Some routes are closed while others require good equipment. To get to the waterfall there are 2 options red cross and blue Cross. Both of them start from durau but you can bypass the forest because they intersect the main road so you can start from there and you will cut about 10-15 minutes. The red cross it's about 3 hours long and require to be in great shape, you will be constantly going up. The blue cross it's easier but you will also need some level of fitness. The pathway goes through forest so pay attention to wear you put your foot and especially when it's raining as lack of sun creates long lasting mud. There are some concern, first the markings are terrible no arrows when some of them are worn out, the second problem it's the noise from the trucks that the salvamont guys are racing through the village and on the roads, this is very...

What a great waterfall! This is a very nice place in the woods, and the waterfall drops over two cascades down. The place fulfills you with its energy. During the day it is pretty crowded, but that's ok ;-) The hike takes about 2 hours from Durau, and you can continue to varful Toaca. Wear good shoes, the hike is not always easy and there are steep parts in it. Take your time, do not hurry. A...

We started from the Durău Mountain Rescue station and chosen the red cross route. It’s really a very beautiful tour to this spectacular waterfall. The path is well signposted. It’s important to wear hiking shoes, because the path is steep and slippery (if it’s raining). The air in the forest is full of pine scent and really soothing. If you stay in this area, it is a must to do this great tour.
