All in all a very interesting place.
Half of it is well taken care of with lots of plants. The greenhouses on site look really cool, have a very futuristic look to them and a good variety of plants and even a few small ponds. The acvarium looked small for the size of the fish they had, maybe it's time to send them somewhere else since it looks like they've outgrowned their tanks. The castle looked very cool as a backdrop and the field in front was full of flowers and well maintained. The rose garden was nice. Very good variety, different colors and types. The alpine garden look really well it was a very nice place to take pics.
The other half however was not very well maintained. I heard their funding got cut by 25% and it shows. The Japanese Garden needs some work. It would be an awesome place if it was taken care of a little more. The medicinal garden was in the worst shape but I think it was still very informative.
I think the castle and land might be in the process of being giving back to the previous owner so that might also be a reason why they can't maintain parts of the propriety. As I said it feels like 2 different gardens.
However I would still recommended the place. Washrooms were in very good shape and there is a lot of things to see on it's ground so it's totally worth visiting. There is free parking on site.
I just hope they get the funds they need to improve the appearance of some of...
Read moreNice botanical garden. Situated Near Jibou town center, on a hill, covers quite a large area (about 25 hectares) on the hill with wast spaces. The Botanic Garden is organized in sectors, each sector being established on certain criteria such as: decorative, geographical origin, ecological and genetic, systematic, dendrologic, economic, administrative, the hot house complex and medicinal herbs. The Botanic Garden has 3 hot house complexes for research pourposes. It also has a few greenhouses shaped like domes, with tropical and subtropical plants and a very large variety of flowers and herbs. In one of them there is also an aquarium with exotic fish. In the center one there are water-lillys. There are also a lot of orchids, but Mediteraneean, Australian, African and Mexican plants too- there are a lot of cacti for example. In total there are over 5000 plant species. In the museum there are collections of seeds, different types of dried and preserved fruits, stems cross sections. It also has a mini zoo with some deers and peacocks (in the dendrological sector). There is also a playground for children and a bar where you can buy softdrinks and snacks. It is a good place to visit, the children had...
Read moreSuperb! Even though we spent 2 hours in there, i feel like it wasn't enough. It's really a pity nobody promotes places like these; they have great potential and they did a wonderful job arranging and maintaining this beautiful garden. the indoors sections were really a nice surprise; i didn't expect them to have so many different environments set, with such a huge variety of plants!
The only downside was the palace; it has a really nice architecture but it's in poor shape and it was closed. Its exterior vibe made me think of a terrace in Cuba with the palm trees and the old shabby painted castle in the back.
Also, there's lots of potential to the place with the superb top view they have at the back, where the restaurant is/was(?).
At the entrance/exit they have a shop where you can buy souvenirs ( magnets, cards, etc) but also plants at real good prices. Sadly we didn't have room in the car and it was too hot, or else i would've found that nice baby ficus a spot in at home :)
We will definitely make our way to Jibou...
