The "Genovese lighthouse" was actually build in the fifties. The whole ensemble, the "maritime arena" was completed in the 60s. But I guess it reminded people of the actual Genovese pier and lighthouse from the city's hayday, before the 13th century. Now those structures are sunk, but apparently they were still visible sometimes, before the big renovation. Someone wrote on the wall of the lighthouse "good kissing spot", and I guess they were right. Best time to visit is at sunrise and at sunset, when the water of the harbour are alight with many bright colors. You're very close to the town, but far enough that you won't be able to hear its noise, just the sea. Moonrises are spectacular too. Other thing to look for is the "wild" life: a big tribe of swans, always on the lookout for gullible tourists willing to feed them, and a huge tribe of cats that found a home...

Farul Genovez din Mangalia este un monument istoric plin de mister și farmec, legat atât de legende, cât și de fapte reale. Construit în secolul al XIII-lea de navigatorii genovezi, farul a fost un punct de orientare important pentru vasele comerciale din Marea Neagră.
Legenda: Se spune că farul a fost ridicat de genovezi pentru a ghida navele lor spre portul Callatis (vechea Mangalia). O poveste romantică sugerează că farul era și locul unde marinarii își luau rămas-bun de la cei dragi, având o semnificație simbolică profundă.
Adevăr istoric: Farul, în forma sa actuală, a fost restaurat în secolul al XIX-lea de către autoritățile otomane, rămânând un simbol al orașului Mangalia. Deși nu mai funcționează ca far activ, este o atracție turistică ce păstrează farmecul epocii medievale.
