Frăsinei Monastery — Attraction in Muereasca

Clean monastery in a gorgeous location with mountains all around it. There is free lunch to be grabbed if you would like (vegetable soup and a potato dish at the time I visited).

The part of the monastery on top of the mountain is only allowing MEN - no women (which is strange and weird, but it's due to religious psalm). For women, there is a monastery just 2 km lower (first you reach this, then you go to the top)

Getting there is not easy, the road's width is small and many times two cars will have a difficult time passing by each other. Even though there are signs claiming European funds are used to rebuild the road to the monastery, it has looked the same for the past year; the only thing new are the many EU...

Before even reaching the monastery you are greeted with signs that further acces on the public road (which is not owned by the monastery) is strictly forbidden for women, due to that portion of the road being cursed. Plenty of helpful visitors are ready to explain this to you. Aside from being illegal this also means that women apparently cannot continue the blue-band marked trail that starts there (which ends at the Lotrisor waterfall).

Technically nobody will (or can) stop you from continuing but it is ridiculous how this is even allowed by the county/municipality.

Mai 2021, Mănăstirea Frăsinei - impresionant! Lăcașul poate fi vizitat doar de bărbați, femeile având acces doar la mănăstirea de jos, din marginea satului Muereasca, unde starețul de la Frăsinei, părintele IOACHINIE Popescu, coboară pentru a ține slujbe și pentru alte rânduieli (spovedanie, împărtășanie etc.), în special în zilele de sărbătoare, duminicile, dar și în alte zile. Astfel, chiar dacă femeile nu au acces în Sfânta Mănăstire de la Frăsinei, acestea pot discuta cu părintele în biserica de jos, ușor accesibilă, situată chiar lângă drumul de acces spre Mănăstirea Frăsinei. La mănăstire nu există semnal gsm, astfel că telefoane nu există. Cei care vor să intre în legătură cu monahii de aici o pot face doar venind personal sau trimițând scrisori și mandate poștale (pentru acatiste) pe adresa mănăstirii, pe numele starețului (Ioachinie Popescu, Mănăstirea Frăsinei, comuna Muereasca, județul Vâlcea, cod 247495). Cei ce trimit mandate, vor primi confirmări și chitanțe prin poștă, dacă au scris pe plicuri și adresa personală (expeditor). Mănăstirea oferă cazare gratuită fiecărui pelerin care solicită acest lucru, în măsura locurilor disponibile. De aceea, cei care vor să aibă posibilitatea de a discuta în tihnă cu sf. părinți trebuie să meargă în alte zile decât cele din weekend și sărbători religioase, când este foarte aglomerat. Toți pelerinii sunt poftiți la masă, alături de călugări, de aceea fiind binevenite și bineprimite produse preambalate (făină, mălai, orez, ulei, zahăr, pâine, cartofi etc.) pentru hrana tuturor celor care viețuiesc sau care vizitează sf. lăcaș.
