Bucura Lake — Attraction in Râu de Mori

A heaven for every hiker, this place should definitely fit any backpackers agenda! It has everything one can possible love from an outdoor adventure: a difficult access path (especially of you travel with full gear and tent to stay for a couple of days), a glacier lake with low banks, a tall peak rising abruptly from its shores and many flat areas to pitch the tent. The difficult route (from Carnic Village) involves a lot of exposed alpine trails, with rocky surfaces and one should have the proper boots for this task. Elevation is high and requires the hikers to pass over a tall ridge in order to get access to the lake. The other route, from Peleaga Meadow, is easier and involves a trail in the dense forest but is far less spectacular. On the premises there is a Mountain Rescure Lodge that does not provide accommodation but has a permanent rescue team and can radio in the base station in case something happens. Pay attention that this is a a very popular hiking attraction and expect many hikers with tents installed, especially during weekend days (we counted as much as 80 tents in August, 2019). Water from the lake and the nearby streams is drinkable so not need to take a water filtration device with you nor carry large amounts of water in the backpack when you travel towards the lake. For travelers with dogs, beware that sometimes the meadows surrounding the lake are the home base for large sheep flocks with as much as 10 sheep dogs around! Highly...

Lacul Glaciar Bucura se afla la o altitudine de 2040m. Cel mai scurt drum până aici este din Poiana Pelegii (asta daca poti urca cu masina pana aici). De la intrare in Parcul National Retezat (taxa de acces este 10lei de persoana / copiii sub 14 ani gratuit, 15 lei pentru automobil) sunt 18km neasfaltați pe un drum forestier. Ultimii 3km din acești 18km pot fi parcurși doar cu o masina cu garda la sol înaltă si preferabil 4x4. Urcarea pana la lac este abruptă. O bună parte este prin pădure, printre rădăcini de copaci și bolovani. Pentru persoanele in etate acest traseu este unul dificil deoarece presupune efort. Corpul trebuie sa aibe mobilitate ai forță pentru a escalada porțiunile cu bolovani mai abrupte. Persoanele cu condiție fizica buna pot face traseul Poiana Pelegii - Lacul Bucura in 1 ora si jumatate. Persoanele care nu au o conditie fizica buna vor face si 4 ore pe urcat/ coborat pentru a parcurge traseul. Recomand folosirea încălțămintei de tracking si nu a pantofilor sport. Cei care au încercat sa urce in șlapi, balerini, pantofi de piele au abandonat repede deoarece traseul este alunecos daca nu este folosită încălțăminte adecvata. O data ajunsi la Lacul Bucura veți avea satisfacția unei priveliști deosebite. In lac scăldatul este interzis. Temperatura apei este foarte rece, undeva pe la 10grade Celsius chiar daca temperatura atmosferica este de 30 grade Celsius. In partea dreaptă se afla cabana Salvamont iar un pic mai sus un izvor cu apă...

Unfassbar schön. Von Pioana Pelegii mit leichtem Gepäck in 1,5-2h über einen sehr schönen aber nicht immer einfachen & oft sehr steilen Weg zu erreichen. Wir (ungeübte Wanderer) haben mit Übernachtungsgepäck 3h gebraucht. Gute Wanderschuhe dringend empfohlen.

Die Anfahrt ist nicht einfach. Ein Auto mit erhöhter Bodenfreiheit ist sehr zu empfehlen & es besteht ein Risiko dass die scharfen Steine auf der Schotterstraße (vor allem ganz zum Schluss) die Reifen beschädigen (das ist uns passiert). Unbedingt ein Reserverad dabei haben, ein kleines Pannenset mit Kompressor & Reparaturflüssigkeit nützt hier gar nichts mehr.

Oben ist es unglaublich schön. Es gibt einige Zeltplätze die immer von einer kleinen Natursteinmauer umgeben sind. Es gibt eine hervorragende Frischwasserquelle, das aufgestellte Toilettenhäuschen ist allerdings ein absoluter Albtraum (zumindest als wir da waren) mit Fäkalien inklusive an der Wänden.

Die Bergrettungsstation von Salvamont ist im Sommer besetzt & die Männer dort waren sehr freundlich & hilfsbereit (wir mussten wegen unseres kaputten Autos mit einem Freund kommunizieren & sie haben ihr Starlink freundlicherweise zur Verfügung gestellt).

Die Landschaft & Ausblick ist wunderschön, nachts wird es aber empfindlich kalt, darauf sollte man eingestellt sein. Wir waren unter der Woche da, da standen kaum 5 Zelte, am Wochenende ist es wohl sehr viel voller.

Insgesamt aber ein absolutes Highlight & alle Anstrengungen...
