Poiana Pelegii — Attraction in Râu de Mori

Poiana Pelegii is one of the camping sites in the Retezat Mountains. The easiest access is following the road from Gura Apei Lake (blue circle markings), however the road is in a relatively rough condition therefore caution is required while driving. In order to enter the National Park, there is a 10 Lei/person fee, and a 15 lei fee/car. These fees are paid at the access point near Gura Apei Lake. At the end of the road there is a parking place, however during the weekends it is usually full, therefore one can leave the car at the side of the road. To get to Poiana Pelegii from the parking lot, you have to cross a small wooden bridge and climb a few meters. There is a lot space for you to put your tent, therefore one should look around for the best spot before setting up camp. Poiana Pelegii is roughly 2 hours away from Lake Bucura and has trails leading to the Peleaga peak, Lake Bucura, Buta Cabin and several places. This is an ideal place to set up camp if you have a lot of luggage/equipment because it is close to the parking lot. Great place but not easily accessible. You risk breaking your car on those 18 km. Even if it took me 1.5 hours each way, I still ended up with some issues.

The access road was recently reopen but: Quality is bad. Already the rain shows it's trails on it. They rebuilt the road but did not trimmed the trees and vegetation on the sides. Drumul de la baraj până la zona de parcare (practic capătul acestuia) are o lungime de aproximativ 17 km. Este un drum forestier cu destul de multe gropi și porțiuni mai înguste, iar undeva la 2.5 km înainte de a ajunge la destinație sunt niste serpentine, unde apa a săpat niste șanțuri pe drum, care trebuie abordate cu atenție cu o mașină mică. Eu am fost cu un Golf 6 și am reușit să nu ating mașina deloc pe dedesubt (grijă la crengi). La intrare in parc, după baraj se plătește o taxă de intrare de 10 lei/persoana și 15 lei/ masina, bani care ar trebui gestionați mai bine, pentru amenajarea drumul de acces. Cei 17 km de drum forestier i-am parcurs într-o ora și vreo 20 de minute pe urcare, și cu 10-15 minute mai puțin pe coborâre, puține fiind porțiunile in care puteai să mergi cu un 30-35 km/h. Ajunși in Poiana am luat-o la pas spre Lacul Bucura pe traseul marcat cu banda albastra/cruce roșie, pe care l-am parcurs în doua ore așa cum apare pe indicator. Am mers apoi pe crucea galbena până la Vf. Peleaga 2509 m (este și semnal la mobil, te poți ajuta de maps pentru întoarcere, dar deja din Șaua Pelegii nu mai este semnal), de unde am coborât pe bandă roșie până la Șaua Pelegii, unde traseul se intersectează cu cel marcat cu bulina albastra (spre dreapta pe lângă lacul Peleaga) care duce înapoi la Poiana Pelegii, zona de parcare.
