Our group’s visit to the fortified church in Harman was definitely a highlight of our trip. The structure is pretty well-preserved and makes for a fascinating exploration. They provide a small booklet at the entrance (you return it afterward) with basic information. Although we found ourselves curious to learn more about the history and different spaces, you can tell they're making the most with the ressources they have.
We had hoped to compare it with Prejmer's fortified church, but unfortunately found the hours on their website and Google Maps were incorrect when we arrived there. Harman has the advantage of a clock tower you can climb, which adds a nice dimension to the visit. Just be prepared for some steep wooden ladders and stairs if you decide to go up! The man who works there thoughtfully warns visitors about the bell that rings every 15 minutes—it's quite loud when you're up there so cover your eyes or time it properly!
Similar to Prejmer, you can explore nearly all the rooms and walk inside the fortified walls, which gives you a real sense of the place.
Their hours are usually as follows: • Summer (April-October): Monday-Saturday 9-18, Sunday 10-18 • Winter (November-March): Daily 10-16
A pleasant surprise was meeting the cats that roam the grounds. Though I'm allergic, my friends enjoyed petting them, and I didn't have any reaction since most areas are open-air. The man who works there shared that he rescues street cats and dogs, currently caring for over 20. During Covid, he had taken in 36 animals! Some items in the gift shop are even designed by local artists featuring these cats.

Read moreThe fortified church is easily accessible from Brasov by either car or a bus that will take you right to the spot. Entrance is 3 euros and they provide a booklet with the history of the place and point out what not to miss.
I found this to be the best kept such church among all the ones I've visited: the yard is impeccable with the grass freshly cut and everything is in good shape, congratulations to the staff!
I liked that they allow access to the tower although they do advice that it might be dangerous and it is but the view from above was worth it for me
The museum adjacent the church has some interesting items and it's larger compared to similar museums in other such churches.
Be sure not to miss the painting of the chapel tower!
The souvenir shop actually has stuff worth buying alongside the usual trinkets like fridge...
Read moreWe continue to Harman in German Honigberg. Friendly, even exuberant and with a good sense of humour, we are welcomed by the castle guard of the fortified church from the 13th century in perfect German. He explains us, where we have to go to see something. Later while small talking we learn about the problems of the old buildings with moisture, cracks and so on. The church is well equipped, you can climb the tower, which is supposed to be the highest in Burzenland with 52m. The wall ring can be completely circumnavigated within the fortified walkway. In one of the towers is a chapel from the 13th century preserved with frescoes. There is an outer wall, a ditch (dry) and the 12 m high inner wall. We are excited. This is one of the nicest fortified churches we saw on...
