"Thubten Shedrub Ling" which means "The Abode of explanation and practice of the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha" is the new and largest Buddhist monastery in Russia. This name was given to the future shrine by the 14th Dalai Lama back in 1992, when he blessed the place in Kyzyl. However, construction works started only in 2014. "Thubten Shedrub Ling" has become the first monastery opened in Tuva since the 1930s, when the Soviet government shut down all religious institutions.
