I visited Nyandungu Urban Wetland Eco-Tourism Park on a Saturday and loved it so much that I went back on Sunday, it’s now something I want to make a weekly ritual. The park is breathtaking, calm, and beautifully designed, with long stretches of greenery, walkways, and well-kept spaces that make you forget you’re still in Kigali.
The entry fee is affordable: I paid 3,000 RWF as a foreigner with a visa. For Rwandan citizens and residents, the price is lower (around 1,000–2,000 RWF depending on the category), which makes it very accessible for everyone. It’s worth every franc for the experience.
Getting there is easy, the park sits between Kimironko and Masoro, just a short drive from most parts of the city. There’s ample parking at the entrance, so arriving by car isn’t a problem. Inside, the walkways are smooth and safe, perfect for solo walks, family strolls, or jogging. You’ll find benches along the paths to rest, shaded areas to cool down, and plenty of spots to pause and take in the scenery. There are also clean facilities and a café where you can grab a drink after your walk. Walking through the wetland trails, watching families, runners, and nature lovers enjoy the space, I felt both relaxed and inspired.
Nyandungu is a true escape inside the city and a reminder of Kigali’s commitment to green living and preserving nature. Highly recommended if you’re looking for peace, fitness, or quality time outdoors.
Tips for first-time visitors: Best time to go: early morning (for a quiet walk) or late afternoon (to enjoy the cooler breeze and softer light). Bring water, sunscreen, and a hat if visiting during the day—there are shaded areas but large parts of the path are open. Wear comfortable walking or running shoes, as the trails are long and it’s tempting to keep exploring.
If you’re a runner, this is a perfect place to track laps without worrying about traffic. Families can bring kids, as the park is safe, clean, and stroller-friendly. Plan at least 1–2 hours to enjoy it fully, there are plenty of corners...

The moment you enter, the noise of the city fades away and is replaced by the rustle of reeds, the chirp of birds, and the gentle hum of wetland life.
