Conclusion

Lakeshore is absolutely covered in garbage. Plastic bottles all along the beach and in the water. A lot of broken glass. I thought the glittery sand might be mica minerals, but at a closer look it's bits of reflective plastic and metals. There were children swimming and playing with floating bottles and styrofoam. Make sure you wear shoes!

The lake is indeed a beautiful site. There are many hotels and resorts around. (but try Golf Eden Hotel..it's a beautiful place to stay and it's a trekking distance to the Museum of Environment ). There are also a number of islands on the lake. (I visited the Amahoro Island (Peace Island).
