We had a great experience visiting the place where the cacao is collected before becoming pure and natural chocolate of S.Tomé e principe.

The guide took us to all the products they produce/protect such as: coffee, pepper, vanilla and cacao. We learned how to difference the 4 types of cacao and the two colours to know when it is ready to collect.

We saw how it is fermented to eliminate the acidic (like vinegar) in the beans, how it's dried and finally toasted before sending to the other place to the completion of the products.

It has been an excellent experience, I have learnt something new about my country and I am quite happy to have participated in this adventure.

We have also tried the cacao, the chocolate and they even provided us with water. So please, go ahead and pass by for a bit. Don't miss this...

I went without reservation, just waited for maybe 20-30 minutes for the previous tour of the english speaking guide to finish. Had a nice coffee while waiting. The tour was super interesting and my guide, Philippe, explained everything about the cocoa production very detailed and you get to see all stages of the process. I totally recommend it. After the tour they serve coffee, water and chocolate and you get discount from the shop. They are open monday-saturday from 8am to 3/4pm, Saturday's tours might finish sooner. The tour costs 10€/250 Dobra. They also have french tours, and of...

I visited without a reservation, but a temporary guide showed me around. The tour takes approximately 1 hour and fees 10 EUR (including 3 chocolates and coffee). You can see the entire process from cacao seedlings to harvest. Raising seedlings, looking at trees bearing fruit (able to split the fruit and lick the grains), fermenting, crushing and sieving the cacao beans, drying (able to split the fruit and eat the grains). To get here, take a taxi (yellow omnibus, 40 Db) to Neves and then take a motorbike (30 Db).

We had a tour of the Roça and really loved it. The reservation was easy and we were warmly welcomed. Paulo, our guide, showed and explained us the whole process from planting the trees, the harvest and how the cocoa beans are then transformed. Of course we also tried some chocolate and even some raw cocoa. Great experience, we absolutely recommend! Muito obrigado!
