So glad we visited here!

Such beautiful gardens and a very interesting house. The information throughout the house was clear and informative. However, the slave exhibition in the basement of the house was, for me, the most impressive feature. It was very well presented, offered great detail and although incredibly sad, an amazing presentation of such important and pertinent information.

We visited out of the main season so some of the 'attractions' such as cooking presentations and the gift shop were closed. We didn't use the swimming pool or bar, but they looked very clean and appealing.

Signs on the road to show which turning to take were non-existent (well we didnt see any) and the road leading up to the house was extremely treacherous / so bumpy and uneven. This is my 4th time in St kitts and I have never even heard of this house before - I discovered it by chance. I am so surprised that it is not more well advertised as a tourist attraction, as it is most certainly...

It's definitely worth a visit and it's a bargain at only 5usd. The house itself is gorgeous both inside and out, and the outbuildings are worth poking around in. There is a lot of information even withput a tour guide. I enjoyed taking my time without a guide. Don't miss the highly informative and unsettling history of the slave trade in the basement. The bath house is also worth checking out. I can't imagine how long it would take to fill that thing, and all by hand too! The beautifully manicured gardens have lots of signs describing the plants and trees and some interesting facts about them. It's a very peaceful and relaxing spot. Finally, if you are so inclined, you can do a rum tasting for $15 in the verandah bar. This was one of the highlights of my trip...

Visited in an afternoon late-May and were only the 3rd and 4th guests of the day. $5 USD per-person to do a self guided walking tour around the grounds. One of wonderful staff gave us a brief history and overview then set us loose to explore. There is plenty or informational Signage as you tour the house. In the lower level there is an very well done exhibit and inforformation about the slave trade in general and specifically to St Kitts and Nevis and the Eastern Caribbean. The view of the Caribbean Sea is spectacular, there is a bar, restrooms and the swimming pool is open to the public with a dozen lounge chairs. Plenty of free parking, no directional signage on the main road but it should be restored soon. Trust Google Maps to get you...

(Visited as part of cruise shore excursion, including Caribean food experience.) An interesting house, a few rooms to wander round with some period furniture, and there's a gift shop that sells aome wonderful rums. I can recommend the coconut and coffee ones, but all were good. The highlight was the cooking presentation though, sign yourself up for one of these and you won't be dissapointed. A full delicious meal is prepared before your eyes, and you're given the recipes and method. Bring a pen as there's always something you're shown you'll forget. After its all done its time to eat, and it all tasted fantastic. Now trying to find out how to get some of the ingredients in the UK.
