This remote trail is right in the heart of Saint Lucia. Is so peaceful there, the only thing you can hear is the sounds of pure nature. Honestly the best place to explore the rain forest. It is so luxurious, you don't know for what direction to look has there is so many varieties of plants. Unfortunately we didn't see any snakes, crabs or either parrots but we could hear them. The trail does not have entry fee but it does have some sort of maintenance, there is no vegetation blocking the path, it seems someone looks after it. It is quite humid in there so the path can be very slippery. So be prepared with proper hiking shoes. We followed the directions referred by Darren and were able to find the trail. The road is not in good conditions, but we made it with a normal car. You will clearly realise that you arrived once you get to the picnic area. Then you can start either from the right or left, it's kind of a circular route, as long you stay on the trail, you not gonna get lost. There is nothing nearby, so bring food and water with you. Highly recommended.

DO NOT FOLLOW GOOGLE MAPS DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO THIS TRAIL! They are completely incorrect and give extremely wrong directions. Instead follow directions to the Quilesse Reserve and continue past the end point of those directions (they’re also incorrect!) You will soon see a small sign to turn off to Quilesse. Take that road and then look out for small signs to the Des Cartiers Trail. Warning, the road conditions for the final portion require a 4x4 and the roads don’t exist on Google maps either 🤦🏻‍♂️ The effort is worth it however as the trail is stunning. All the facilities and signs on the trail are tired/broken however it is a circular route and clearly obvious which way to walk. Definitely requires a good level of fitness to handle the uphill portions.

Get there early, as we were able to see the St Lucian Parrots very near the start of the trail at 8am. Its a circular walk, however part of it links up with the harder to find Edmund trail. Maps.me has the trails which is useful and works offline. We were also very fortunate to find a sunbathing Saint Lucia boa. Like many of the trails set up in the 90's its taken a bashing with Hurricane Thomas et al, with landslides in places and steps or bridges washed away. Take strong walking shoes, water and some poles. In all we walked 10miles from the Des Cartier start to the circular Edmund trails and back. Took about 5 hours with frequent water/parrot stops.

Nice, easy short trail (about 4 km round trip, 1 hour 15 mins at comfortable pace). Some climbing via steps built in but not difficult. Lower circle manicured but upper circle is not (but still in very good condition). Suggest not going on day following rain as sections can be muddy/slippery. Heard the indigenous parrot but didn't see one, nor any snakes. Not easy to find the trail. Strongly suggest using Darren's photos (see his review below). For additional help, I noted the distances between his photo points. Starting from the GPS point (top left pic), go 2.0 km to top right pic, then 0.4 km to bottom left pic, then 0.8 km to parking spot at end of road (bottom right pic). Also note on the last stretch near the end there is a smaller side road branching right - don't take it, continue straight on the main one. ...
