Fort Charlotte, Saint Vincent is accessible by a winding road which becomes very steep as you ascend to the top of the hill. Try walking up here if you're not fit and you'll become quickly winded.
The amazing walls surrounding the Fort are built on very steep cliffs which dangerously drop into the sea. I often wonder how the British could have had such advanced construction knowledge, leaving behind such a legacy. These walls are steady and secure.
The Fort itself is a throwback to days gone by, with a historic prison overlooking the sea plus British army cannons decorating its walls . There are paintings of Saint Vincent's history in one of the large rooms, depicting life of yesteryear. The Fort also has a lighthouse which is still manned, although modern day ships do not appear to be in demand of the services.
