While visiting Corozal, we took o e afternoon to spend here. It's like going to a neighborhood park. It's quiet and peaceful. I packed a little snack, so we had a mini picnic there. It was fun to watch the iguanas in the trees. The signage was helpful. I am told that the alliance that was formed here is what allowed the Maya of this region to not be conquered by the Spanish. I love that it is in the town and we didn't have to do a long drive to get here.

Beautiful small site in the town, clean and well maintained. Being the only visitor, the site was closed in the morning but a next door neighbor called the staff and 10 minutes later someone showed up and opened it for me. Friendly and helpful people around, don't be afraid to ask their help if the gate is closed. Worth the stop if you are around.

Not the largest, but well worth a visit. Easy walk to the Mayan ruins. The primary docent/ guide was not at work the day we were there, I'm told he can greatly enrich your visit. Good signage to explain the history. Lots of iguana~! Everything was clean and well kept.

It was a happy accident that I got to experience Santa Rita Ruins in Corozal. My Mexico Belize travel was delayed causing me to overnight in CZH and my taxi driver toured the ruins with me before dropping me off at my hotel (The Mirador). While Santa Rita is much smaller in size compared to some of the bigger Belize Mayan Sites I have been to like Lamanai in Orange walk, Altun Ha north of Belize City, and Cahal Pech in San Ignacio, it was still very...
