Dadan, the city which was built meticulously from stone and astride the valley’s oasis, dates back between the late 9th and early 8th century BCE (Kingdom of Dadan) and 5th–2nd century BCE (Kingdom of Lihyan) These tombs are up to 50 metres above ground level — spurring the imagination of how they were carved without modern construction equipment.

The most famous funerary monuments in Dadan are the Lion’s Tombs, where two seated lions may mark the burial of a member of the royal family.

مدينة دادان، عاصمة مملكتي دادان ولحيان. وتعود المدينة التي بُنيتْ بدقة من الحجر وتتربّع على واحة الوادي إلى أواخر القرن التاسع وأوائل القرن الثامن قبل الميلاد (مملكة دادان) والقرن الخامس - الثاني قبل الميلاد (مملكة لحيان)

بما في ذلك منحوتات الأسد الجاثم التي تُميّز مدافن الأسد الشهيرة. وترمز الأسود إلى القوة والحماية، وربما اقتصر استخدامها على تمييز مدافن نخبة المجتمع، وربما حتى أعضاء العائلة المالكة. وقد يصل ارتفاع هذه المدافن إلى 50 مترًا فوق مستوى سطح الأرض - مما يُحفّز الخيال حول كيفية نحتها دون وجود معدات البناء الحديثة.

Jabal Ikmah: The open library, Thousands of pre-Arabic inscriptions across numerous sites make AlUla an important location in studying the Arabic language. A mountain north of the AlUla Valley, AlAqra’a, features more than 450 early Arabic inscriptions. Naqsh Zuhayr, to the east, features one of the oldest inscriptions of the Islamic era — dating back to 24AH (644 CE). But no such site is more significant than Jabal Ikmah, home to the highest concentration of and most varied inscriptions in AlUla.

جبل عكمة: المكتبة المفتوحة, تنتشر في عدّة مواقع في العلا الآلاف من النقوش التي تعود إلى ما قبل حقبة اللغة العربيّة، وهي تجعل من العلا موقعًا مهمًا في دراسة اللغة العربيّة. ويتميّز جبل الأٌقرع الواقع شمالي وادي العلا بكونه يضم أكثر من 450 من أولى النقوش باللغة العربيّة. كما يتميّز نقش زهير إلى الشرق بكونه أحد أقدم النقوش في العصر الإسلامي - يعود تاريخه إلى 24 هـ (644 م). ولكن لا يوجد موقع أكثر أهمية من جبل عكمة، موطن أغنى النقوش وأكثرها...

The mountains and nature is mesmerising all around Al Ula so you can literally drive around and enjoy nature, walk, hike or do whateveryou enjoy doing. The dadan tour didn't add any extra information to our trip expecially after hearing all the information on the hegra tour. I believe it was a wasted time that could've spared doing something more interesting. But if you're looking for a guided tour and you have two hours and a half to spare, then why not.

I appreciate the efforts from staff and tour guides, and all the warm hospitality, but really it wasn't that informative and/or...
