Al-Hayer Lake- A Hidden Jewel

Gigantic valley, clear water stream and lake, greenery across the stream and unique combination with desert land- this is what defines a hidden gem in Ar-Riyadh. This is commonly known as Al-Hayer Park Lake.

We went there early morning leaving home at 5:15 AM and got there in an hour. My recommendation is to go there even earlier because as sun gets up and up, temperature gets unbearable. Also evening attracts even more crowd.

If we talk about the area, this is still under construction. For this reason, even basic infrastructure is missing like toilets, snack shops etc. This means you have to take care of all this stuff before you come here. Kids can enjoy with their bicycles or similar stuff.

Road is in good condition though few patches are just ok. However, this is not something which you need to worry about. However, from main highway to Hayer lake, there is a single road. It has its own beauty- a road moving through desert valley and we really enjoyed it. You will find main lake area first, once you get there. There is a big building, however, it's not operational as well. Road moves on and after a km or so, there is small waterfall-like area. Most of the visitors gather here and enjoy the serenity. Some of them also play with water. We found park security persons stopping them to enter into stream. There is a clear sign board restricting visitors to swim in the stream. Being a traveler, I do not confine myself to usual places so I kept driving forward and touched almost the far end. Each part is equally good and I see a good potential in this area, may be a camping site even. We spent almost 3 hours there and then left for home.

One thing which I wanted not to talk about is cleanliness. It's not because of park administration. In my opinion, adequate facilities are there to keep the area clean. Afterwards, it's us who have to fulfill our promise to nature- that we shall keep it clean. I took many shots and none of these is free from any littering whatsoever. I used to go for hiking a lot earlier and followed only one rule- 'Leave No Trail'. I request and encourage all fellow visitors to practice healthy visits. If we had the opportunity to enjoy sort of cleanliness, those coming next should also be able to do so. Thanks for your...

Very nice ambiance. It is a big upcoming project of Saudi government, an artificial island and open rural park.

It's the end of long water channel which is starting from kilometers away. Palm trees and other desert shrubs and plants are situated around the park. The valley serves as a popular spot for a barbecue and picnic.

Since the park is still under construction, you can't find any restaurants or any other facilities nearly. Vehicles can park near...

Its a good place for very early morning outing. The air is fresh and little bit humid which gives a refreshing feeling in Riyadh's extra dry weather. From June to August, one should reach there 20 mins before sun rise or at most by sun rise, otherwise the heat will not let you sit there more than an hour. Do not try the place in evening or night during this hot season.
