Nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of Sirogojno, the Old Village Open-Air Museum is a captivating journey into the past. Imagine strolling through a village frozen in time, where each house whispers tales of bygone eras. Established in 1979, this cultural gem is a testament to Serbia's rich heritage.
As you wander through the cobbled pathways, you'll encounter 40 charming houses, each with its own story to tell. These quaint dwellings were lovingly transported from various corners of Zlatibor, preserving their original charm and character. From rustic cottages to traditional taverns, every corner of this ethno-village exudes authenticity and nostalgia.
The heart of the museum lies in its meticulously preserved exhibits. Step inside and be transported to the 19th and early 20th centuries, as you explore typical Zlatibor households adorned with folk craftsmanship. Marvel at the intricate woodwork of the Dinaric log cabins, a testament to the region's architectural heritage.
But the museum isn't just a relic of the past; it seamlessly blends history with modernity. Some houses have been tastefully adapted to serve as souvenir shops, apartment buildings, and cozy cafes, catering to the needs of today's visitors while retaining their original allure.

Read moreThe museum consists of wooden houses from the 19th and 20th centuries. There are two parts, the first consisting of two households with all the accompanying facilities that the houses of that time had and the second intended for tourists such as restaurants, souvenir shops and accommodation. All the houses were once inhabited, only they were moved to this place and reassembled. You can enter some houses, and some you can look around only from the front door (which is good because otherwise many of the exhibits would be damaged due to human and children's curiosity). I was particularly impressed by the house with the hidden room where families hid their children from Turkish soldiers so that they would not be taken to the Janissaries. During my visit, there was a housewife in each household who talked about life in the household, the rules the members followed and the difficulties they had to deal with. Both of them spent their youth and first married days in houses like this, which makes their experiences and life stories a valuable part of this museum. Also, in a conversation with them, you will understand how nice and comfortable we live today and how arrogant and unnecessarily dissatisfied we are. Hard times create strong generations, good times create weak...
Read moreIn the village of Sirogojno, 26 km from the tourist center Zlatibor, there is the only open-air museum in Serbia "Staro selo". On the location of five hectares, next to the church of St. Peter and Paul, old log cabins were pulled from all parts of Zlatibor, in order to be presented and kept here. A beautiful place to walk and see what the household looked like at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Within the museum there is a tavern where you can relax, have a drink and eat something. If you are tired you can spend the night because rooms are rented within the museum. In the souvenir shop you can find various wooden objects. A museum worth visiting because the concept is very interesting. Recommendation for the tour. The parking lot is located in front of the entrance...
