Out of the many caves opened for tourists in this area, this one is the most commercialised. The tours can get crowded, so it becomes difficult to hear the tour guide. The tour itself consists mostly of walking and observing the cave on your own, as the tour guide gives very little information. Many stalactites are broken and laying on the ground due to carelessness while building the commercial passages, which would make most people who appreciate nature sad and angry.

The entree fee is 350 dinars per person and if you come by car, parking is another 100 dinars. (August 2021 reference.)

Caution: The stairs in the caves are very slippery on some places, so take very good care to not rush your step. If you're visiting in the warmer months, also make sure to bring a jacket with you, as the temperature in the cave is at around 8°C.

Advice: If you're in the area, at least two other caves offer guided tours: Lazar's Cave and Rajko's Cave. Both are much better preserved than this one. The first one offers a nice hike to two canyon viewpoints, while the second one offers a longer and more informative...

Tours depart every 45 minutes. The tour is conducted in Serbian, but the guide is fluent in English. The cost is 500 dinars per person and 100 dinars for parking, cash is more preferred than card. The cafe only serves drinks, and there is a toilet next to it. The only food available is breadsticks and chips.

It is definitely worth visiting, although the journey from Belgrade is not short. It is best to drive during daylight hours on the A1 motorway and then follow the signs.

The Resava Cave is approximately 80 million years old. It is the largest cave in Serbia, with a length of about 4.5 km. The tourist route is 800 meters long, and 2,850 meters have been explored. The cave is located in the Upper Resava region. The cave is estimated to be 80 million years old while the oldest speleothems date from 45 million years ago. It has four halls on two levels each and the speleothems are colored in red, yellow and white. Altitude at the entrance into the cave is 485 metres (1,591 feet) and the lowest point inside is at 405 metres (1,329 feet).[2][3] The cave was formed by the sinking river in the limestone substrate. Cave formations are right at the entry. They are formed through the dissolving of the calcium carbonate. The color depends on the mineral through which the water flows: red from the iron oxide, white from the crystallized calcium and yellow from the traces of clay. The symbol of the cave is a massive stalagmite, 20 m (66 ft) tall and 12 m (39 ft) wide. After its appearance, it was named the Statue of mother with a child. The cave consists of 8 halls.

Resavska Cave is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Serbia’s natural wonders. Located in a serene setting, the cave offers a fascinating tour through its impressive stalactites and stalagmites formations. The tour costs 600 dinars per person and lasts about 30 minutes, providing a perfect amount of time to explore the cave without feeling rushed. This place was truly interesting! The guide provides detailed insights into the cave’s history and formation, making the experience both educational and awe-inspiring. One tip: make sure you bring a jacket and wear socks, as it gets quite cold inside. If you’re looking for a unique experience in Serbia, Resavska Cave is definitely worth a visit!
