Very nice trail, with impressive scenery along its way. From the Bel Ombre bus stop (no 21), it too me apx 1 hour to reach Anse Major (40 minutes if you count from where the trail actually starts). But I did stop a handful times to have some short rests. The trail is rated as easy, but I would rate it as moderate, since it ascends and descends several times, and you have to be careful where to put your feet. Be aware there are some rocky parts to the trail, so good shoes are suggested. In particular when combining stones with a decent amount of descent at a few places. 15-20 minutes from the start of the trail, there's a small cave which is suitable for resting, and offering some cool shade. 7-10 minutes later you will find a nice vantage point, overlooking the beach, also with some shade. There are some other places along the trail that offer shade, but it depends on how high up the sun is. I did the trek twice during my stay, the first at 10 and the second at 8. My suggestion is start as early as possible; the sun won't be as intense in the mornings, and you are more likely the have the beach to yourself (as after 10 there will be more populated). Make sure to bring enough water on the trek, 1 1/2 - 2 liter per person should be enough. Finally, you when you reach Anse Major, you can call a water taxi to come and pick you up, if you feel the the return trip would...
Read moreGreat hike, beautiful views like others have said. Not a difficult hike in terms of elevation gain/loss or distance. But you can be sure the sun and humidity will be a factor. The wife and I are in very good shape and this hike almost killed us. We started out at 10am and I’d say that’s about two hours too late. It was scorching! So go early or choose a cloudy day.
I thought the sign advertising all kinds of ‘amenities’ at the end (Anes Major) was kinda funny as there is NOTHING at the end of this hike! Except a beautiful beach. Don’t expect any sort of Taj Mahal or even fresh water.
We got super lucky as there were some young men running a boat taxi for those poor souls that couldn’t fathom the hike back. There was a number posted for a boat taxi but thankfully I didn’t need to call it so I have no idea how helpful or not that would have been. Also my phone had no reception most of the hike. I was too delirious from heat exhaustion to check my signal...
Read moreWe enjoyed our time during the trail - it has many beautiful viewpoints. You get to see the insides of a jungle forest combined with the Seychelles’ amazing rocky relief. We saw the fox bats flying above, stopped at the viewpoints and went down on a smaller beach portion near the end. It was very nice and we did it kinda at the limit, started at around 16:00 and got back just in time to see the sunset. I would not recommend to go there when the sun is strongest, there are around 10-20% parts where you are in direct sunlight. Bring water! The trail alternates a lot between parts where you have to go up and down on rocky or earthy terrain. So, the effort required for the total of two hours is not neglijabile if you are not used to effort. Also, we had trekking boots, but you can do it with some sneakers if you pay attention to the road and...
