One of my favourite aquatic shops to go to. The variety of plants, livestock and equipment is good. I like that they stock plants from Tropica which are really good quality. They are kind of understaffed so it may be kind of hard to grab hold of someone if you need to ask questions but I prefer to be left alone to browse through. Prices are on the higher side but seeing that they do take the effort to properly quarantine their livestock, I think the prices are justifiable to me. Nice tanks they have and I agree that they used to be better maintained but it isn't so bad now. Edit: 12/12/18, I visited again on 8/12/18 and found the tanks to be in an even poorer condition than my previous visit. Algae in tanks, huge planaria and lice (?) in the tanks. The lady was rough with the livestock I got too; being gentle with them would've made the purchase less stressful on the tiny creatures. Witnessed an interaction between a customer and the owner (?) about his co2 tank. The tone was condescending and kind of rude. Not a pleasant experience and not too sure if I will visit them in future.
Edit: Went again in April 2019, tanks are in even poorer conditions. Seems like they are transitioning to dealing with terrestrial plants instead. I got some stuff but I guess it's goodbye for sure now. They had a few tanks with heavy infestation of ich; the whole tank of tetra/rasboras were infected. Dead and rotten livestock that no one seems to be bothered clearing. Asked the owner (Roland) some questions regarding my purchase and received a really sarcastic and condescending reply as if it's a stupid question. Note to Roland: if I am buying aquarium rocks and I ask to know if the rocks are inert, you should know I am referring to whether it will affect tank and water chemistry. I am not asking about all the elements or materials in the world, just those rocks in my hands, I certainly do not need to know that "nothing is inert, only gold" since your rocks are...
Read moreThe shop layout is fantastic and the display tanks are very beautiful, however the customer service is extremely appalling. I walked around the store for a while without any employee interacting, one employee sitting down scaping, one helping another customer who was setting up a terrarium, and the third employee was just watering terrariums, or being unproductive. I asked for help finding a specific plant and the unproductive employee just went to the other employee who was helping a different customer and waited until he was finished talking. Obviously they did not train this employee who did not have any familiarity with the products. This employee then resorted to sorting through the plant cups trying to find the one I wanted, yet she could not find it. She then asked her superior I assume to find it for her and he could not do so, offering only substitutions that looked the same. I later declined the substitutions and looked to the bucephalandra which I picked out, and chased down the employee who was watering the plants. She helped me take the bucephalandra and the cryptocorynes that i selected and I asked her, “12$ correct?” as stated on the price chart. She then checked with her superior or colleague who said that only the black pots were 12$ despite there being no evidence of such a fact. The price for blue pots was 18$. She told me so and I asked her what the chart was for. She said “Uhh, we don’t really use that one anymore.” I think it is odd how the prices can be blatantly there underneath when all other tanks have correct prices and then they can all be wrong. Who would have thought the price could be wrong when it states that on the website? Nevertheless I have bought them and am happy about them but sadly I am a bit miffed about the situation. I would strongly entertain the notion of training your employees better and providing correct information...
Read moreThe Green Chapter is a beautiful, spacious store with birds, fish, and plants.
Pros:
Birds for sale with bird toys, cages, etc.
Fishes for sale (small number, around 30 types). But there are plenty of fish-related products like tanks, food, testing kits, etc.
Loads of plants to build your dream terrarium or whatever else.
Beautifully-kept store. Almost everything I saw was in good condition and state. The frogs were happy, the snails were good... I only saw 1 tank with a dead fish, which is impressive considering the size of the store.
They sell other interesting creatures like snails, frogs, and shrimps which other fish stores may not have.
Rare plants for sale as well.
Lovely aquascaped tanks for sale.
Large and spacious. This is rare for a fish store in Singapore.
Has a toilet.
Sells a huge selection of fish tanks in backroom. From Fluval to Gex to no-brand tanks; affordable rates for the tanks surprisingly. I saw a 60cm one (no brand) for $32.
Sells driftwood and a lot of rocks.
Cons:
Extremely expensive. One moss ball (typically around $3-$4, costs $8 here; it is big though so that’s a plus). The store is very nice and clean, hence, I suppose that justifies the high price.
Lack of fish types. Green Chapter is a hybrid store for fish-lovers, plant-lovers, and bird-lovers, so, you won’t find as many fishes as Qian Hu Fish Farm.
Overall:
A fantastic experience for all. The store is incredibly clean, gorgeous, and big. It’s a rarity in Singapore. Only real ‘bad’ thing is the price but that’s...
