Soon Guo Malaysian Durian — Attraction in Singapore

Have come to this shop at least 5 times this year. First few times during the Aug-Oct season. Came here once yesterday and today. The durians have been consistently delicious. Given that not all fruits are the same, even if they look the same on the outside, one must eat it before you can distinguish the taste and texture. I'd say their service is pretty standard - knowledge, but yes they do try and sell you certain breeds, but they don't insist or hard sell if you already know what you want. Have always dined in, sat inside the store and observed them for at least 1h on each occasion. They treat all customers fairly and are honest about what's in season, what's not. They also know how each durian taste and can recommend customers accordingly, especially for those who do not have much experience.

Have watched them open countless durians (while eating mine), and their fruits are ALWAYS full of meat. No wasted husks. Very value for money especially if fruits are in season and cheap.

Oh, i didn't mention that MSW was selling at $12/kg. Fantastic value!! Ate 2 MSW fruits yesterday, only paid about $48 for 2 medium sized ones ~ 4kg.

Picture is of the Black Gold today (they ran out of MSW). Doesn't really look like BG but taste and texture is good. One side is sweet and one side is bitter. Again, the seller can't possibly tell if it's fully sweet or bitter on the outside. I don't fault them for that - the fruit is tasty and very worth the money. $43 for 2.4kg fruit ($18/kg), i feel the quality is well worth it, given it's not the peak season.

For those who leave bad review, i noticed mostly are takeaway boxes. Come on la, if u know how to eat durian, u know that durian must eat fresh. If u want to dabao, at least eat it immediately when u reach home. Got so many of u waited hours if not next day/days then eat. OF COURSE IT'S GOING TO BE SOUR. even if i put in fridge also will sour lmao.

Please visit the store and dine in if you mind the texture lmfao don't leave bad review due to your own ignorance and negligence....

-1 star because i feel non-peak season fruits doesn't taste as good. During the Aug-Oct season they were really really good. We even brought friends over and everyone said the fruits were really good quality!!!

Try and come after dinner (after 8pm) because it takes time for the fruits to cross jb customs. Came in the late afternoon and doesn't have much stock available to choose from.

/Edit: went again on 30 Dec and was served by an older male seller. He always tried to hard sell and this guy is rather dishonest. We decided not to buy. My advice is, look for the lady seller or the younger males. The older ones seem to only want to earn your money and will not recommend you the good ones which are more...

If only I can give no star, I would. We bought durians a few times from this store, not perfect but average. But today I can’t even rate the durian. We want to try a type that cost $20 per kg today. At first the heavy sales guy pick quiet a few durians and reject it himself, we felt like he must be a pro in durian, then he try to open one that is already open, I alert him immediately so he reject it .Then he start taking back those he rejected before not sure why but we let him do his job. We accept the first one he open but the second one my husband give a comment that the durian meat is thin seeds is big.The sales guy replied they don’t guarantee small seed. Once we heard that we decided just to buy only these two durians. the sales guy start creating a scene saying we should not say those comments at all in future. My husband apologized for saying those words if offended him but he still continue giving bad comments then he told the cashier not to sell us the second durian but my husband said is all right we will buy it but he insisted n continue give nasty words, very rude.We left n will definitely not return. We are not buying 3 for $10, We bought $20 per kg that guarantee good stuff. If we accepted every one he open why should I pay this price. And never have I met a seller that create trouble with customer due to not able to give guarantee to customer for their product. I can see why they are no longer having long queue on the store. Btw the one kg durian we bought is very watery. $20 not...

2023 review Used to buy from this place quite a few times cos it’s the nearest durian stall near me, durians are average and price is also so so. Buy recent 3 purchases were not good. We purchased black gold and MSW and both were not ripe. The durian also taste watery. We asked the staff to help us select the bitter kind msw, but always got the sweet ones and not ripe.

As i stay nearby, so I always bring the durian with husk back to home to eat, but this is like open a mystery box, you don’t know if it’s surprise or shock waiting for you. When they open the during, they always know which part is good, but when go back home and open the durian it’s a different story.

So whoever purchase form this stall, i suggest you to get the staff open the durian and vacuum pack them. Please also press the durian meat to make sure they are edible. If find anything not good quality, as least can ask for a replacement.

Tried again in the 2024 June durian season as this is the nearest store near me.

Unfortunately gana dishonest seller again, the durian is super watery, the flesh next to husk already turned black and seller told me cannot choose as this is on offer. This is 13/kg and told me if I want good ones go for the 20/kg ones. I don’t think it’s right to sell customers bad durians just bcos they are...
