English

I would like to strongly express my deep dissatisfaction with the behavior of the person selling tickets at the cashier. It was a man around 50–60 years old, with gray hair and glasses, speaking Slovak and Hungarian. His attitude toward visitors was outrageous. He responded to questions in an aggressive, condescending, and arrogant manner – as if tourists were a burden to him. He suggested that we should first “read the information on the walls” and only then “respectfully” ask questions – as if we were wasting his “precious time.”

Such behavior is absolutely unacceptable for someone who represents the first point of contact in a facility of this quality. This person should not be allowed to interact with visitors at all – if he must work there, it should be strictly in cleaning toilets and refilling toilet paper. Because of his attitude, we nearly canceled the tour.

Fortunately, the rest of the team was very kind, helpful, and professional. The cave itself is a true gem – unique on a European scale. I have visited many caves across Europe, but this one truly deserves worldwide recognition and promotion – for families, children, and elderly visitors alike. I strongly urge you to take action in this matter. One person can ruin the reputation of an otherwise...

The cave itself is really beautiful and impressive. However, everything else is a joke! Parking is 5€ (you spend approximately 1h there…). They seem to think that this is a metropolis rather than a cave in the middle of nowhere..

I visited in high season and still tours only took place once per hour even though there were clearly enough people to offer a tour every 30 mins (max!). As there’s only one tour per hour, I walked through the cave with 80 other people. The two boats, however, only have a capacity of ~40 people so you spend about 20 mins just standing in one spot of the cave to wait your turn.

Entrance for adults incl. the boat ride is 12€ (10€ without) and then they wanna charge 7€ (!!!) for a photo permission. I’ve never seen anything like this. 7€ to be allowed to take pictures with your phone is ridiculous.

The whole tour is only in Slovakian. All the guides speak English but will not tell you a single word in English. You are given a paper with supposedly all the information at the entrance and then need to figure out yourself where you are because the guides do not even mention that in English. Also, the small paper does not really offer much information. Are guest from outside of Slovakia not welcome? Do we not pay the same price?

Poor...

This cave is a complete rip-off (see the many reviews). HOWEVER, the same cave system is accessible at a much better deal just 3 min. drive (2.3 km) away across the Hungarian border.

As at June 2023, parking was free of charge just across the road and the entrance fee/price per adult was 4,000 Forints (~10.80 EUR). The entrance fee can be paid by card so no foreign exchange required.

The tour takes 1 hour and 1.4 km which is longer than in Slovakia. The tour is in Hungarian language only, BUT double-sided A4 information leaflets are available in different languages (available upon request free of charge at the cash desk).

According to their website, tickets on the Hungarian location are available for purchase only on-site which worked perfectly well. Note, the cave can only be visited via guided tours which take place and specific times only (see their website for details).

You find the cave and the link to its multilingual website searching for Bardala Aggtelek Cave on...

A very interesting place to visit. Went there with my wife and found out that the cave is half in the Slovakia and half in Hungary. Got a nice boat ride too in the beautiful underworld down there. The not so good thing was that the guide didn't speak English and there was no other way to get some info about the nice things in there (beside a small flyer with just few succinct descriptions of the main areas of the cave). However, we really enjoyed the trip. Recommended.

I visited Domica Cave from both sides: the Hungarian side and the Slovak side. The cave is 30 KM long: 22 KM are in Hungary and 8 KM in Slovakia. However, in Slovakia, there is also a short but very nice underground boat trip included in the visit. The Domica Cave is superb and impressive: in both countries. I personally liked the shorter visit on the Slovakian side better. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND to visit: if not both sides, then the Slovakian side would be my first pick.
