I flew to Kosice specifically to visit this museum and was very impressed. Whilst getting to the museum isn't particularly straightforward without a car, requiring a walk along the grassy verges of a country road, it is very much worth the effort.
The museum has a wide range of airframes displayed both indoors and outdoors, albeit in a variety of conditions. Some airframes could do with cleaning up and repainting. There are information boards next to each aircraft in Slovak and English. Unfortunately not all exhibits inside the exhibition halls are translated, which is a real shame as they document the history of Slovak aviation and I would have enjoyed learning more about it.
The gift shop, whilst small, has the widest variety of fridge magnets I've ever seen in an aviation museum and the prices are very reasonable. The cafe also has an alcohol licence which means I got to enjoy a beer break in the June sun, very civilised indeed. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The museum entrance fee is reasonable, but like some other aviation museums in Eastern Europe you are charged extra for photography with a professional-grade camera. I found this somewhat irritating but it was still affordable overall.
I spent about two hours here, I recommend 90 minutes as a minimum but you may take longer than I if you read Slovak and thus all the exhibits. You also get a decent view of the airport runway so that's a nice addition.
Overall I would rate this museum highly for its range of airframes (some quite rare indeed - the Nanchang Q-5 for example), its proximity to the airport, and the professionalism of its staff. Po prijazde k hlavnej brane cakate parkovisko, no kedze navychode nic nie je, tak ani parkovisko - nie je. Parkujeme na sedlaka popri obrubniku v zakrute, inde sa uz neda. Nastevnici za nami to dali rovno na pricestnu zelen. Miesto aspon nejakeho reprezentativneho vstupu pristupime k unimobunke, kde traja pani strazia kasu. Ano opat sa pozeram na vsetky tie nepokosene travniky a zatisie s polmetrovou burinou a rozmyslam, aka je zvysnych dvoch osob skutocna naplna prace. Za tri osoby platime rodinne vstupne 8,-€. Prechadzame po rozdrbanom betone do prvej haly, ktora sa venuje pociatkom letectva. Musim uznat, velmi pekne spravena expozicia. Odtial to uz pojde len dolu vodou. Nasledne vychadzame pod konstrukciu s plachtou, ktora skryva tie najvacsie poklady muzea. Od Mig29, Mi24, Vigen, F104, UH1,... vsetky s vrstvou prachu, ze aj opodial byvajuci obyvatelia Luniku IX by spontánne vytahovali prachovky. Pri kazdom lietadle je tabula s nazvom, zakladnymi parametrami a, pozor... fotkami. Ano fotky exponatu, ktory stoji pred Vami su dolezitejsie, ako zakladne informacie aspon ala wikipedia. V technickom muzeu uz zrejme rataju, ze vsetci sme chodiaca encyklopedia a tak sa moja dcera dozveda len to malo co si pamätám. Cele muzeum je jedna premrhana prilezitost, na ktoru turistou nalakaju iba raz. Prvy a posledny. Apropo nepokosena trava. Pocas nasej navstevy som opodial zapocul zlovestny hrmot. To spravcov arealu nenapadlo nic ine, ako vziat 8 tonovy traktor s tahanym mulcovacom a po par dnoch intenzivnych burok pod ho kosit na rozmocenu podu. Ake kolaje ostali v travniku, si viete predstavit. Cast travnika nepokosena, lebo ju kolesa traktora ulahli a pod lietadla odparkovane na travniku sa logicky s traktorom nedostal. Takze vysledok tejto snahy bol priemerny Balkan. Ako keby bolo skutocne take hrozne drahe kupit jednu malu traktorovu kosacku so zberným kosom za par tisic eur, s ktorou pokosia areal za jeden den a nebude sa vsade váľať vyschnuta trava. Okrem vsade pritomneho bordelu, rozpadavajuceho sa betonu, opadajucej omietky a skladky odpadu s castou konstrukcie (zrejme) L39 za plotom Vam v hlave neostane nic ine len otazka, na co je taketo muzeum?
