The Strazky Castle The village of Strazky was found in the late 12th century. The oldest preserved documentary evidence of this village is a deed of donation by King Adalbert IV dated 1251.

The first better-known aristocratic owners of Strážky were the Berzeviczy family, who acquired it from King Charles Robert in the early 14th century. In 1556 the new owner was Marko Horvath-tansith de Gradec. One of the most important members of this Croatian family was Gregor Horvath-Stansith. He had the house rebuilt in Renaissance style, and set up a Latin-meduim schol oh humanities and a library. The Horvath-Stansith owned the stately home until 1801, ehen the Szirmay family became the new owners of Strážky. In the late 19th century the house became the property of the Mednyánszki and ultimately the Czóbel family, who lived there until 1945. After the death of the younger Margita Czóbel (1972), tha last owner of the stately home, thebuilding came under the administration of the Slovak National Gallery. After many years of reconstruction work it was opened to the public in 1991, offering the opportunity to view several permanent exhibitions. The castle also contains an...

Strážky Chateau is a hidden gem in eastern Slovakia, blending history, art, and serene natural beauty. Originally built on the site of a medieval monastery, it was transformed into a Renaissance manor in the late 16th century. The castle later became home to Hungarian painter Ladislav Mednyánszky, whose atmospheric works are now exhibited inside. Managed by the Slovak National Gallery, the interior showcases historical furniture, a rich library, and beautiful paintings. The surrounding English-style park by the river offers a peaceful retreat. With guided tours and well-preserved architecture, Strážky Chateau is a perfect cultural stop for history and art...

A nice palace situated in a big park on the bank of Poprad. The park seems a nice place to rest. You're allowed to play on the grass there. If you want ypu can borrow chess from the palace. The palace is an interesting gallery of Miednayszki's paintings. It also shows the typical interiors of the palace. The building itself is a white renesaissance treasure which cmis completed by a bell tower on the other side of the road. You should be cautious and check opening hours at the place website. There is no many visitors their in the end of September and you may be a lone visitor there which provide better insight...

Lovely little place with gorgeous riverside park and gardens with free access. Lots of great artwork in the park. The little castle itself can be viewed in guided tours: the entry fee is inexpensive and the tour guide is very professional and knowledgeable. You'll learn a lot about the place's history and all the exhibits, including original historical furniture and books, plus a great collection of paintings especially by Mednansky. This place is a little gem well worth a visit if you like history or art, or just for a little walk or run in the beautiful park.
