The Ľubovňa Castle — Attraction in Stará Ľubovňa

A must see for all medieval site enthusiast. Well preserved, maintained with a variety of things to see and feel.

Visited it in summer 2017 as an one day trip from Levoca where we get an accommodation. On our way there we stopped for a short visit of Kezmerok and been on the castle parking lot on app. 15:30 . Spent in the castle around 2 and a half hours. Unfortunately we missed some events but spent some more time to see all the hidden places and cellars.

We traveled with kids (2,5,8) and all af them found something interesting to see and have fun about. The visitable part of the castle is huge, a lot of parts are just to walk through or near and some others are to see and admire. There are several topic based expositions and every one will find something of his own interest. At the end we toke some time for a family chess game and stopped in the castle bar had a nice "medieval snack" and a modern ice cream.

On our way back we have stopped at the Etno village under the castle. At the time we missed some more English at the ticket office and around the castle but at the end we got what we need. If we will get again in that ares we will get back there and plan at least a...

The castle is beautiful -we liked it. However first negative experience was the parking , they said cash only 4 euros (it's 2023!!!) , we didn't have any euros so the guy charged us in Polish currency. We paid 20 zloty which is according to official exchange rate is 4.5 euros, they use inflated exchange rate. Then we wanted to have lunch in the castle cafe, after ordering our food the girl said - CASH ONLY - WE COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!!!! in the place full of tourists - cash only??? with no cash machines in sight?? Luckily we had some Polish zlotys, but the girl in the cafe tried to scam us because she sneakily added almost 8 euros in zlotys whilst calculating the exchange rate. We saw what she did!!! Obsluhoval: Ada - said on the receipt, shame on her!!! then she was so rude whilst giving us food (eyes rolling, dismissive attitude), absolutely disgusting. She gave us chips filled with salt after that, literally 20% of the paper cup was filled with salt!!!!Absolutely unbelievable, ruined...

A beautiful journey into history with amazing views

Ľubovňa Castle pleasantly surprised us – it’s beautifully restored, with rich exhibitions and very friendly staff. We especially enjoyed how much of the castle is accessible, and the guides shared interesting stories even tailored for children. The Nebojsa Tower offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape.

A big bonus is the open-air museum (skansen) below the castle – lovely wooden houses, a small chapel, and a great insight into traditional local life. It’s an ideal spot for a full-day family trip.

Only downside: the entrance fee is a bit on the higher side, especially for larger families, and some areas could use better signage or more descriptive texts. Otherwise, we were very satisfied.
