Planinski dom na Zelenici — Attraction in Žirovnica

Awesome hut in the heart of Karavanke Alps. I overnighted two nights in the Planinski Dom na Zelenicy. The rooms are nice and it was possible to turn the heating on in the room. The food is excellent - as vegetarian I enjoyed štruklji and ričet. For breakfast it was possible to get scrambled eggs. They also serve very good coffee, as there is professional barista coffee machine. The host Denis and his colleagues vere very welcoming and taking good care of the customers.

The cost of the one night + half-board was 30€, with discount for membership in an Alpine club, which I find a very good deal.

Planinski Dom na Zelenicy has excellent location, with trails leading to Stol, Vrtča, Boguniščica, Šredni Vrh and Ljublj Pass. If the weather is bad or you want to have a nice view at sunrise or sunset there is awesome viewpoint at Triangeli peak (~1700 m als) just 15-20 min from the hut.

I would definitely stay again in Planinski Dom na Zelenicy. I am actually missing it after two days in...

Roughly 1 hour to walk from Ljubelj Pass to the Chalet on Zelenica. It is rather big with spacious main sitting area and with plenty of tables in front of the entrance with a nice view on the North face of the Begunjščica mountain. They offer typical Slovenian alpine dishes but we have only tried apple and cottage cheese & blueberry "štrudelj". Fresh and delicious.
