We drove here from Skofja Loka and stayed the night. We traveled up to the Castle our first afternoon and it is a magnificent sight on the hills over looking the river. Their has been a tremendous effort in restoration and the results are truly impressive. Their are a lot of events that are staged out of the castle including weddings and cultural events. We would love to come back one day and be a part of one of these events...but for now we enjoyed our afternoon reliving Slovenian history.

A little history...Celje Castle is a castle dating back to 1322 in Celje, Slovenia, formerly the seat of the Counts of Celje. It stands on three hills to the southeast of Celje, where the river Savinja meanders into the Laško valley. Today, the castle has been restored. It was once the largest fortification on Slovenian territory. The city of Celje was also known as the Little Troy or “Troia secunda” and had a lot of Roman Villas and Palaces in the city with the Castle being the most prominent fortification...

It was more than just amazing and splendid experience. Everything started at the very first moment on the entrance. The informer Tarik told us the basic things and informed us about things going on in the castle and about what and where we can see in the castle and he did it in a very interesting and encouraging way making us very excited and filled up to the top with expectation to experience everything possible.

Later on we joined the guided tour and our castle guide Uroš told us everything about castle's and the Dukes of Celje history in such a plastic, "lived through" way that made us very easy to picture things in our minds, we could nearly feel things he was telling us about and he made us hungry to visit the castle again.

The price of the entrance is low, more than affordable and the experience is absolutly worth of it and I would highly reccomand it to everyone who wants to peek in the history of Europe or experience a fragrance of the past or simply have a...

If you're in Celje, you should definitely visit this medieval castle. Old Castle Celje is a nice tourist point and the castle is beautiful. It offers a stunning views of the city beneath and the surroundings. You can have a nice walk inside the walls, go into and to the top of the Friderik's tower. There are exhibitions inside the castle, they are also worth a visit. Concerts are also held here in the summer evenings. The entrance fee is 4€, which is not a lot, and you also get to use a 1€ coupon in the café Veronika inside the castle. At the entrance there is a tourist info centre and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Ask them for other sights that are worth to see or for information about the castle, Celje and its surroundings. There are also souvenirs and traditional handicraft products available. Overall, reasonably priced, worth the visit, a good point to...
