An amazing walk through a (mostly) dry limestone gorge, through caves and cracks and peaceful nature.
We caught the free bus up from Bled and instead of getting off at Zatrnik we went on a further 1km or so to where a forest road went off to the right and asked the driver to drop us off there. Follow your way down the road to where there is another sharp right and you can drop down onto the Slovenian Geological Trail. You can then descend all the way downhill to the car park through the gorge and the galleries and then walk out to Krnica to get the bus back. This way builds the surprises as you make your way down.
There wasn't anywhere to get refreshments in Krnica but there is a Mercator supermarket and a bar by the bus stop in Dolgo Brdo a further 800m down the road. In total the walk was 8km from getting off the bus to the...
Read moreSmaller than I thought but so worth it! There is a small car park at the start of the trail on the east side. You will pass some signs that say No Entry to cars that are not locals, but there is a car park for 10 or so cars just down the road past the sign. The gorge itself is an easy walk, albeit some large rocks to climb over at the beginning and then you climb up to a Garden of Eden on top! I have never seen anything like it. The gorge splits and a garden, almost tropical rainforest type, appears in the middle and you walk between the gorge walls through this lovely garden. It is quite spectacular. On the way back you walk through the forest along the top of the gorge.
