This is one of the largest museum complexes in Slovenia. It displays military equipment from almost all periods, from medieval bows to modern tanks and firearm. Tanks, planes, mini submarine, bombs, grenades, firearms, vehicles, various equipment, etc. Along with the entry fee you can also decide on aditional offer of trying the flight simulator, guided tour of the insides of the mini sub and a guided tour of the Vallo Alpino underground artillery fortification on the nearby hill. There is also a souvenir shop and a cantine to grab something to eat. The tour of the museum can be guided or free roam. Outside the museum there are plenty of parking spaces for cars, buses and campers.

The museum is very easy to find, as it lies next to the main road. A very good insight into military history as well as other technical things that surrounded us. I recommend calling before visiting if you want to try out the simulator, as they have two, one with a mig jet, the other with a motor. It is necessary to make a reservation for the simulator because they assign you an hour. I also recommend calling to see the submarine, where they also set the time. Preferably with a time gap, because the museum is big and there are really many things to look at. There is also a path to the fort outside. Expect at least 2-3 hours, and they also have an inn.

Military museum with a nice collection of weapons from the first, second and the slovenian independence war with a few really one of a kind pieces like a Yugoslav submarine or some jet planes. If you are a plane enthusiast then you should try the flight simulator- a real, genuine cockpit makes the experience even more realistic. Suitable for families, children. Parking places are right in front of the museum, tickets are more than affordable. At the end you can try some of the dishes traditionally served in the army in the KANTINA, a little bit nice restaurant at the entrance to the museum.

We stopped here to visit the museum, which was fantastic, great displays and friendly staff. Part of the price to stay here €24 is entry to the museum for 2 people. Water is off at the moment (December) but there is grey dumping. Elec hook up included in price, need Euro adapter. Reasonably quiet but you do here trains and trucks on the road. Security also came in and checked the area while we were there. When we purchased our tickets our registration was also taken. We would stay again to spend more time in the museum as they have some amazing military machinery on display.

The museum is wonderful, with well-structured rooms that trace the history of Slovenia in the last century and with many more or less recent military artefacts dating back to the 2nd World War and used by the Yugoslav army afterwards: some of the vehicles also have an interesting history ! I want to thank all the museum staff for their enormous availability as well as for their preparation! Museum highly recommended for history and military history enthusiasts! PS The visit to the submarine, the fortress and the Mig21 simulator must be booked in advance!

Located in ex-military JNA base in Pivka, 10 minutes by car from Postojna, this museum offers a wide look into the military history of Slovenia and former Yugoslavia, which part Slovenia once was. Besides weaponry and equipment from both world wars, a visitor can take a close look at some modern weapons including handheld weapons, artillery, tanks and ground vehicles, airplanes and even a submarine! There is also a big steam locomotive on display in the yard. Guided tours are available, and there is a nice store where you can buy something to take with you.
