This review focuses on the Mig-21bis flight simulator that is present at the museum as of 10.07.2022.

The museum is of high quality and due to it being sponsored by the European Union every text field is also available in English. Written guides are available in English, German, French and Slovenian.

The available simulators you can either reserve prior to visiting or reserve them on spot but they might have been reserved already.

The simulator for the Spitfire is using X-Plane 11. It might be cool for people who have never experienced a flight simulator (FS) before but I would personally not recommend it for someone who flies FS at home already.

The Mig-21bis simulator is of better quality as it is using DCS World with a Vive Pro headset. The frame rate is good and there is no lag. The seat, the joystick and the throttle are genuine Mig-21 parts and are used to control the plane in game. The joystick has force feedback and the throttle has a detent which is not a afterburner detent but instead indicates 50% throttle. There are flap and gear buttons/handles which sadly do not work. You will have to hope that the personell of the museum knows the controls. (Which they did not know when I was there but I knew the keybinds so I could tell her which key to press.) G for gear up/down. LSHIFT+F for flaps up. F for flaps down. (But only once else you won’t be able to go into full power) if you want to have more control yourself.

The real life buttons that do work are the trim buttons on the joystick, and the brake on the joystick. Sadly no other buttons work as far as I know.

The scenario that you can fly is just being in a hot start on a random airfield with no weapons so you just take off and fly around a bit. There are no other airplanes to do dogfights with or to fly in formation with.

All in all I would highly recommend this experience for people who have prior flight simulator experience. The slight force feedback on the joystick feels great and the feel of touching genuine controls is awesome.

Also be prepared to be ejected out of the airplane without warning by the personell helping you there at the end of the session. Which may be a slight discomfort.

Costs are 10€s for 15 mins of flight time. I don’t know if you can stack the flight time...

My husband and I had an incredible experience at the Pivka Park of Military History! The museum is a must-visit for history and military enthusiasts, offering an extensive collection of tanks, aircraft, and other military vehicles that truly bring history to life. The exhibits are well-organized, informative, and provide a deep insight into military history from different periods. A special highlight of the visit was the opportunity to enter a submarine from 1985—an absolutely unique and unforgettable experience! Huge thanks to our guide, who was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate. His detailed explanations and willingness to answer questions made the tour even more engaging. I highly recommend this museum to anyone visiting the area. Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for a fascinating and interactive experience, Pivka Park of Military History is definitely...

This is one of the largest museum complexes in Slovenia. It displays military equipment from almost all periods, from medieval bows to modern tanks and firearm. Tanks, planes, mini submarine, bombs, grenades, firearms, vehicles, various equipment, etc. Along with the entry fee you can also decide on aditional offer of trying the flight simulator, guided tour of the insides of the mini sub and a guided tour of the Vallo Alpino underground artillery fortification on the nearby hill. There is also a souvenir shop and a cantine to grab something to eat. The tour of the museum can be guided or free roam. Outside the museum there are plenty of parking spaces for cars, buses...

The museum is very easy to find, as it lies next to the main road. A very good insight into military history as well as other technical things that surrounded us. I recommend calling before visiting if you want to try out the simulator, as they have two, one with a mig jet, the other with a motor. It is necessary to make a reservation for the simulator because they assign you an hour. I also recommend calling to see the submarine, where they also set the time. Preferably with a time gap, because the museum is big and there are really many things to look at. There is also a path to the fort outside. Expect at least 2-3 hours, and they also have an inn.

Military museum with a nice collection of weapons from the first, second and the slovenian independence war with a few really one of a kind pieces like a Yugoslav submarine or some jet planes. If you are a plane enthusiast then you should try the flight simulator- a real, genuine cockpit makes the experience even more realistic. Suitable for families, children. Parking places are right in front of the museum, tickets are more than affordable. At the end you can try some of the dishes traditionally served in the army in the KANTINA, a little bit nice restaurant at the entrance to the museum.
