Grintovec has been on my list for a long time, but there was always another mountain to climb... The highest mountain (2558m) in Kamniško-Savinjske mountain ranges has one specific - even on a sunny day, the top is often covered with a thin layer of clouds which forms around 11 AM or so... So start climbing early to capture the best views. Our summit was at Suhadolnik farm. Taking the route via Taška will be quite steep at the begging but after 1 hour it levels up and brings you to Cojzova koča after 2 hours. From there you need another 2 hours to get to the top. Technically is not demanding but you need some physical condition as it is straight up with average 25% climb. On the way and on the top you are blessed with amazing views and on the sunny and clear day you can even see all the way to Snežnik and Croatian Učka and Gorski Kotar. Up and then will take you cca 7 hours of walk so get prepared before you go. It is 16km and more then 1.700m of...
Read moreOne of the most challenging hikes I’ve ever done (although I will admit I am inexperienced at high altitude mountain hiking) because the trail that takes you up through kamniška bistrica up to cojzova koča and then finally up to Grintovec is a very bad trail, full of almost nothing but rocky granite rocks that make coming down the trail a living hell since you’ve been hiking it already for several hours and your legs are tired (unless your leg muscles are awesome). Likewise the main trail from cojzova koča to Grintovec is very rocky and difficult to come down and up to as well. It is also not very well marked in certain parts, particularly when coming back down. But it is definitely a rewarding hike, one of the best hikes I’ve ever done and a hike that’s been my dream for a year. The view on top is amazing, particularly on a day with great weather, you can see Triglav from there and many other mountains and take some amazing...

Parking: head towards Kamniška Bistrica and keep going, taking the left turn on the gravel road, which is fine for cars. Go as far as you can and it'll save a 1.25 mile walk to the start and same after you have hiked - we found this out !
Start as early as possible, we started at 5.50am to beat some of the sun and parking was already really busy with few spaces left.
Its a tough hike so be prepared and take lots of water. There's a hut half way up which has lovely food, drinks, a toilet and birds that will happily eat from your hand. Mix of terrain from woodland, trail, scree and rocks. Beautiful view at the top though and a great achievement 💪🏻🏔 Youtube:...
