Slap Veliki Šumik — Attraction in Slovenska Bistrica

I knew about Šumik, but up until now I never visited it. I cannot believe something so beautiful was so near where I live. The surrounding forest is ancient and a protected natural habitat and is absolutely beautiful, serene and full of fresh air.

The path to the Šumik waterfalls (big one and small one) is not for the faint of heart, especially in winter, because the path goes from a medium level forest path to full on climbing down rock faces, so please be prepared if you decide to go. It's a nice short, but difficult hike. The big waterfall is beautiful. There is the possibility to hike further to another waterfall but the bridge was broken.. (see picture) No way to cross the river. So once you've seen the Veliki Sumik, i'd advise you to return because going further is not worth the effort. Further, it was amazing! The waterfall is rather small, probably better looking in a rainy period. The trail is well marked from the main road on and rather difficult for small children nearby the waterfall itself.
