One of the most remarkable days in our Slovenia 10 day tour. It was an amazing day of hiking and great scenery with fresh air and amazing views! We used the cable car taking us around "Grandische" from where we headed off to Velika Planina as a start of our hike. We have taken the long hike around Velika down to Mala Planina and back again. I have to admit and recommend that once at Mala Planina, the views and hike get less remarkable whilst the hiking directions get less and less clear which we ended up losing precious time (Point 7 to Point 9 on the shared trail was not properly marked)! Other that that it was a unique experience at and around Europe's largest pasture settlement with amazing views around the settlement from a distance and closeby, amazing trails and scenery and gorgeous cows everywhere :)) I strongly recommend hiking around between Grandishe and Mala Planina but visit the actual Velika settlement earlier as late afternoon we found the church closed and limited tasting options. This is truly one of Slovenia's hidden gems (not crowded in September) which makes me even more willing to come again as it was truly amazing!

It is nice ofcourse, just as further you go, the prices go up. So better to buy refreshment on beginning/or end then waiting&pay more for the same. We ate in one of the pub cca 1 hour walking from cabine. Well...I ate better to be honest. Completely without taste, nobody took care about how the food will taste. The only food with some taste was food with sour cabbage (szeged goulash) - it was naturally atleast sour..🤣 but anyway any piece of meat was not eatable (I did not have single piece of meat on plate, it was all lile tendons or adipose tissue or so.. But nature is ofcourse great there.

Truly a unique experience to walk around here, it’s more beautiful and vast than I imagine. Traditional wooden huts amidst the alpine mountains. Cows roaming around with clouds next to them (saw a herd next to Mount Gradisce) Cable car was not operational due to rope checks so we drove to the highest car park Mackin Kot. From there, it’s still a 45 minutes / 3km gradual walk uphill. Download EasyPark app prior for payment, signal is spotty up there and there are no payment machine. But you can pay in cash to the attendant if he is there (no booth).

We started at the gondola instead of the car park on the other side because we heard it was closed and would have taken an additional hour and a half drive. We took the first gondola up and decided to walk instead of using the second chair lift. In hindsight, we would have chosen the chair lift since there's not much to see until you reach the top.

Walking around the settlements was very cool, and we loved seeing the cows and all the wildflowers. The mist was thick, so we missed out on the panoramic views, but it didn't matter much. It wasn't too busy, and the wildflowers were beautiful.

I wish there had been more signs and information about the history. There are a few signs, but they are hard to find and not very informative. More historical information would have made the place more special.

All in all, it was a great half-day trip that was worth the money for the gondola ride. If I were to do it again, I'd still opt for...
