Really beautiful place and area but be very careful in the winter: when leaving the gondula at the top, there is an ascend to get to the viewpoints that is so steep that lots of people had trouble and even let to a dangerous situation with one woman who had trouble walking down. Not understandable why this is not made more accessible. IMPORTANT: Generally you should wear spikes when walking any of the trails there in the winter. Some trails that seem easy at first can become extremely dangerous without spikes and there is no information, signs, warnings etc. about it anywhere. I am from Switzerland and have been to many mountains for skiing and hiking, and never have I experienced so many situations and places that made me shake my head about the lack of information and warnings about potentially life threatening circumstances. Having said that, walking from the top to the mid station of the gondula lead through a trail that, after a steep and partially quite dangerous descent, turned into what only can be described as a winter wonderland. Absolutely beautiful! With some tweaks and a better information system it could really be a top notch winter destination.

With its 1603.3 m above sea level, Sněžka is the highest mountain in the Krkonoše, Sudetenland, Silesia, Bohemia and the whole of the Czech Republic. Unfortunately, since the peak of Sněžka lies in Poland, the highest peak in the Czech Republic is Luční hora. Many hundreds of tourists come here every day. You can get to the top by walking route there and back, which is a trip with children for the whole day. It is also possible to use the cable car, which is two-stage, but unfortunately there is no guarantee that it will be in operation every day. What happened to me too. The walk up the hill was breathtaking and from the early morning I walked through the levels of the cloud. Around noon, the clouds parted and the sun came out, which meant the most amazing view of all time.

Beautiful scenery, birds flying in the forest, snow line, green trees and tenacious wild flowers, everything is full of vitality, green plants that are not afraid of hardships and cold, just like people climbing mountains and hiking in valleys, are a symbol of love for life and nature. I am very grateful to the old couple at the foot of the mountain for lending me the charging cable, and I am very grateful to the three young people who are willing to take the cable car down the mountain with me. It took less than 30 minutes to run from the restaurant under the snow top at an altitude of 1550 to the cable car peak at an altitude of 1620. I was exhausted, but fortunately I caught the last cable car. The environment was very good and there were deer on the mountain.

We parked our car in Pec pod Snezkou and took a cable way from there to Ruzova Hora (cca 1300 m) station. Two direction ticket is about 13 EUR. From Ruzova Hora you can easily hike / walk to the top of the Snežka (cca 1600 m). You will need about hour and a half to the top, maybe even less since the trail is easy even for kids, dogs, older people. In the July, temp on the top was 8 C and the wind was 70 km/h so take a good clothes. And when we climbed to the top, we were in the clouds and big strong fog, so we couldn’t see nothing. View is usually good but not for us that time. So watch out for the weather if you wanna enjoy the sight view from the top. There is restaurant on the top so you can seat there for a drink or food.

Śnieżka, wznosząca się 1603 m n.p.m. to szczyt po wielokroć naj – najwyższy szczyt Karkonoszy (należy do Korony Gór Polski), najwyższy szczyt Sudetów (Korona Sudetów, Korona Sudetów Polski, Korona Sudetów Czech), najwyższy szczyt Czech (Korona Europy), województwa dolnośląskiego (Korona Gór Dolnego Śląska) i Śląska w ogóle. Jest to ponadto najwybitniejszy szczyt Polski (wybitność 1203 metry) i Czech, z którego przy dobrej pogodzie rozciągają się widoki nawet na 200 km. Przez szczyt biegnie granica polsko-czeska. Śnieżka charakteryzuje się surowym klimatem, z temperaturą nie przekraczającą przez cały rok 10 stopni Celsjusza (średnia roczna nieznacznie przekracza O stopni Celsjusza), oraz z silnymi wiatrami, które występują przez ponad 200 dni w roku, a najwyższa odnotowana prędkość wiatru przekraczała 288 km/h! Do tego dochodzi mgła występująca na Śnieżce przez około 300 dni w roku, pokrywa śnieżna zalegająca przez ponad 6 miesięcy i częste opady (suma ponad 1000 mm rocznie). Na szczycie znajduje się obecnie kilka budynków. Zabytkiem wpisanym na listę jest kaplica św. Wawrzyńca z 1665 roku, będąca najwyżej położonym zabytkiem barokowym w Polsce. Jest też czynnym obiektem sakralnym, w którym co roku w dniu świętego Wawrzyńca (10 sierpnia) odprawiana jest uroczysta msza święta. Budynek ma kształt rotundy z dostawionym kwadratowym przedsionkiem, jest zbudowany z kamienia i oszalowany deskami, przykryty stożkowatym dachem krytym gontem. Wyposażenie kaplicy jest bardzo skromne, poza ołtarzem są tu figury Matki Bożej, św. Wawrzyńca i św. Wojciecha. Po polskiej stronie znajduje się również budynek Wysokogórskiego Obserwatorium Meteorologicznego, czyli charakterystyczne dyski, zbudowane na przełomie lat 60-tych i 70-tych XX wieku, wpisane również niedawno na listę zabytków. Po stronie czeskiej znajduje się nowy budynek poczty (najwyżej położony punkt pocztowy w Czechach) oraz górna stacja gondolowej kolei linowej, którą od strony czeskiej można na Śnieżkę wjechać. Ja polecam spacer z Karpacza, albo krótszą wersję – z Kopy, po wjechaniu na nią kolejką gondolową (po stronie polskiej). Widoki i satysfakcja ze zdobycia szczytu gwarantowane.

Die Schneekoppe liegt im Osten des Riesengebirges auf dessen Hauptkamm – auf dem Východní Slezský hřbet (Östlicher Schlesischer Kamm). Über ihren Gipfel verläuft die Staatsgrenze von Tschechien und Polen. Südlich des Berges liegt in der tschechischen Region Královéhradecký die Stadt Pec pod Sněžkou (Petzer) und nördlich in der polnischen Woiwodschaft Niederschlesien die Stadt Karpacz (Krummhübel). Südlich der Schneekoppe fließt die Úpa (Aupa), die auf dem westlich des Berges gelegenen Równia pod Śnieżką (Koppenplan) entspringt, durch Pec pod Sněžkou verläuft und in die Elbe mündet. Nördlich verläuft die Łomnica (Große Lomnitz), die auf derselben Hochebene entspringt, durch Karpacz fließt und in den Bóbr (Bober) mündet. Auf der tschechisch-polnischen Staatsgrenze liegende Nachbarberge der Schneekoppe sind die Svorová hora (1410,6 m n.m.; dt. Schwarze Koppe; pol. Czarna kopa) im Osten und die Smogornia (1488,6 m n.p.m.; dt. Mittagsberg; tsch. Stříbrný hřbet) im Nordwesten. Nach Süden leitet die Landschaft über einen Kamm zum tschechischen Růžová hora (1393,1 m n.m.; Rosenberg). Im Nordnordwesten liegt jenseits des quellnahen Oberlaufs der Łomnica die polnische Kopa (1377,4 m n.p.m.; Kleine Koppe) Der auf der Staatsgrenze befindliche Gipfel der Schneekoppe liegt oberhalb der auf etwa 1200 m n.p.m. Höhe gelegenen Waldgrenze. Er ist touristisch erschlossen und insbesondere in den Sommermonaten Ziel zahlreicher Besucher. Auf dem Gipfel steht die Laurentiuskapelle. Auf tschechischer Seite befindet sich die Tschechische Poststelle auf der Schneekoppe und die Gipfelstation der in Pec pod Sněžkou beginnenden Gondelbahn und auf polnischer Seite die futuristisch anmutende Bergbaude, die von 1969 bis 1974 erbaut wurde.

Description
Sněžka or Śnieżka is a mountain on the border between the Czech Republic and Poland, the most prominent point of the Silesian Ridge in the Giant Mountains. At 1,603.3 metres, its summit is the highest point in the Czech Republic, in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in the Giant Mountains and in the entire Sudetes.
