Make no mistake its a wonderful place to visit. The antique vibe unfortunatly is taken to the point where most dining room chairs( no shortage) are on the verge of collapse. ( potential safety hazard). My hot water lasted no more 90 seconds in the shower and the bath plumbing leaked through a missing fitting and i had to persevere for an hour with wet wood to get the braai and indoor fire going. Dry wood is underrated! The staff were awesome and the quite picturesque countryside is a...

There is an extensive and continually growing collection of curated memorabilia from East London and the local area housed here - including a collection of items on Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer - famed for making known to the world the existence of the coelacanth, a living fossil fish - and Joan Harrison, the Olympic swimmer from East London. Jeff, the owner, is continually on the lookout for items at the East London city auctions and elsewhere. And the restaurant here is...

Very interesting place to visit, lots of old stuff on display. The food is well priced and well prepared. Lovely surroundings with lots of history. Campsites are o.k for the rate charged, however, only 3 sites with some shade. Toilets and showers are reasonably clean but outdated and a bit removed from campsites. No amenities for doing dishes. If you camp here only for overnight and rather use the restaurant you are sorted! This place has huge...

Any one looking for a hidden gem? If you do not mind an open fireplace in your living room or bedroom. If you do not mind a gas geyser and suspended wooden floors. If you enjoy nostalgia and our history. If you enjoy old cars and memorabilia. If you enjoy peace and quiet. If you enjoy delicious food at reasonable prices, a campsite without the masses at a very good rate, ....... then his is the place for you.

What a little gem. When I drove in to Thomas River I did not expect to see such a little gem with so much history. The bar and dinner is great and the food is good. Inside there are a nice collection of memorabilia to see. It is definatley worth a visit and perfect for a lunch stop. Walk around and explore the shed with lots of old horse carts in them or the garage with old fuel pump and car.
