We always said we want to go there. This time, on our way back home, we visited the Valley of Desolation. I was very impressed at the entrance, three Dusters- it felt heartwarming 😀🥰, or must I say people with good taste😉.

The staff at the gate was friendly and professional. We were welcomed and asked to complete forms. We paid the entrance fee. We stopped at the first viewpoint and climbed a few steps to the top. Guys, I am unfit and did it. So just get out it is worthwhile. The scenery was beautiful, and you overlooked Graaff-Reinet. We took a few pics and went off to the main area.

Thank heavens, here were bathroom facilities and it is clean and hygienic. My mom and Alwyn have already started climbing the steps. We took it slow. I was impressed she made it to the top. For 83 years old, that is good.

That is the most stunning view. At first, you don't know where to look. The scenery is stunning. All the different rock formations. This was due to volcanic eruptions a few million years ago. Here, we stayed for a while. We tested the echo 😎 and it worked.

We only drove a short while through the park and saw some wild impala, Zebras, ostriches, but there is lots more to see.

I would suggest that you put this on your...

At the park you are greated by friendly assisting you with the small fee to enter the park and with basic direction. Once you enter the park the road is completely paved up to the valleys epic viewpoint. Driving the swirling snake like road up the mountain you will be met by the most authentic Karoo scenery. Along the way you can stop at dedicated picnic area for a quick braai. Continuing on to the valley you will pass toposcope. A brilliantly placed viewpoint giving you a bird's-eye view of Graaff Reinet in the valley below. At the valley of desolation you can stop at one of many layed out parkings and start your walk up through the mountain trail to one of many view points. At the wall viewpoint you will see the valley in all its glory. When you are standing at the view point remember to whistle to get the full echo effect of the mountain. For this view point you can take the 45min scenic walk back to the parking area or back track the 10min along the trail you came. Overall a great trip to this national...

Very relaxing with breathtaking view.🤸‍♀️♥️

Paid R48 per person at the entrance. The drive to the top is about 15 minutes on a tar road. (Not very wide so drive slow)

You receive a map so you won't get lost. There is a lot of other paths for 4x4s but we stuck to the tar road.

There is also a pamphlet indicating all the different animals that can be spotted. This makes the 15 minute drive interesting!

The view from the top is amazing. You can see the whole Graaff Reinet and the dam.

There is a public restroom which is very clean and well kept.

I would recommend to pack food and have a picnic on the deck. We did not because it was very windy that day.

From there it is a 5 minute hike to Valley of Desolation. The view from the top is so beautiful. Very good place to take pictures.

I would 100% recommend. Lovely family outing or place to...
