I had promised to take the kids for a picnic at the Majik Forest only to wake up on the day to find pouring rain. Upon the kids' insistence, we went any way and walked in the forest with our jackets and umbrellas in the pouring rain. It was so beautiful and lots of fun to watch the Egyptian geese and ducklings. On the drive there, I saw that there are many wine farms all along the same road. So a week later, a bunch of us enjoyed a day of wine tasting at the various farms and then ended our day at the Majik Forest with a packed picnic. There are a few under cover tables and a lovely jungle gym for the kids to play on. There's also a paved pathway for an easy walk as well as a natural pathway amongst the trees for those who are more adventurous. It was a lovely family outing that all could enjoy. I didn't see if there was a bathroom within the park but the Majik mall is just across the road and we could easily cross the road and just use the mall's bathroom. We were all also very impressed when a park official stopped by at each picnicking group to ensure that no alcohol was brought into the forest. Their presence and diligence created a safe and...

This took me completely by surprise. I've lived in Cape Town all my life and had never heard about it. Obviously it is a well-kept secret amongst Cape Town's Northern Suburbs crowd as it was quite busy on the Sunday that we were there.

It is an extensive, impeccably maintained park with a large variety of well-labelled plants and tree species. There is a bubbling brook running through a valley down the centre of the park, fed by two small dams at the top. Several walking paths run up the steep sides of the park - just be careful or the mountain bikers with whom the walkers share the paths.

An area of the park has been equipped with children's play equipment, all very well laid out, and there is a large picnic area. I did not see any evidence of rowdy or drunken behaviour, no littering (there are bins, unlike Kirstenbosch) and they weren't overflowing so I assume that they are serviced regularly.

Apparently visitors are permitted to fish in the river and plenty of dogs were in evidence. See once the park is on an elevated slope in a clear-air zone I found it quite...

If you are looking for a nature walk in the northern suburbs of Cape Town then consider Majik Forest. It has a two and a half kilometre walk with paved paths. There are rest benches all along the path. So if you would like to just sit and watch the stream flow by that is a perfect spot. There is a wooden play area for kids as well as a few picnic benches to sit and enjoy a meal as a family. This a is dog friendly walk so lots of doggies to see but unfortunately not everyone picks up after their furry kids so watch your step. There are a variety of birds that one can watch as well as lots of plant and flower species. There is some parking at the entrance but there is a shopping centre close by with additional parking. You will also notice some mane boards of donors who donated to the planting trees. Such an awesome initiative that will live long after that person has left this world.

What a place that is hidden away here in the Northern suburbs of Cape Town. It's a delightful park that caters to a wide range of activities in a peaceful environment. You come and take a stroll, mountain bike, have a picnic (even picnic with strangers, apparently) let your kids play on the maintained equipment, and generally have a good time. And I haven't got to the best bit yet: There's parking at the upper gate and more free parking at the Majik Shopping Centre, and entrance to this facility is completely free. The lakes are a wonderful environment and it's so clean, you can see the fish which swim unperturbed (no fishing is allowed). For hot days, some of the picnic tables are covered for your convenience or you can take a walk among the trees and relax in the shade. Definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful little spot and a quick reminder what sanctuary lies in nature. I took my virgin voyage very early on a crisp autumn morning, so I found the park quite quiet still. I can imagine it is popular amongst cyclists, runners and families. Plenty of lush areas for picnics and open grass patches for your fur babies to play and explore as well. Just loved the variety of birds the dams attract and the scent of foliage, whilst walking on a river of fallen leaves. Note though: This is in the heart of the suburbs, and residential dwellings and a mall surrounds this piece of land, still, worth a visit even if it's just to find a spot to breathe again..
