Recently played here and was left pretty disappointed. Upon arriving I was told there was an error with my booking and that by mistake, they had put me in the club competition. I proceeded to tell them that I didn't book a slot in the competition for the day. That's fine, I understand mistakes happen but what followed left me frustrated. Instead of apologizing for the error, I was told by the starter that I have to join the 3 ball group that is now on the 1st green. I told him my tee off time is not for another 45 mins but he told me that would be the only time I had to play today. I said okay, could you please go ahead and tell the group I will tee off right now and try catch up to them. He told me he would (which was then never done) With no warm up or even time to get a scorecard, I had to rush to the 1st hole to try catch up to the group ahead and explain the situation because no one from the club had the decency to do so - Especially the starter who said he would.
My experience on the course wasn't any more pleasant. The course is in very average condition with every fairway being patchy, inconsistent with its grass type and lots and lots of completely scuffed up areas where no grass is growing at all. The greens are inconsistent. Some rolling fast, others dead slow and every single one has hundreds and hundreds of divots that have been left unrepaired.
This is not the first time I've played here and so that's why this course condition is worth mentioning because it hasn't always been like this.
Overall, not a pleasant experience and won't be returning any time soon. Very disappointing from what used to be a great golfing...

Embarking on a golfing journey at Westlake Golf Club near Cape Town today, I found myself in the midst of a pleasantly challenging yet inviting course. Known for its friendly demeanor, the course lived up to its reputation, offering a series of fair holes that cater to both the strategic player and the casual golfer. Not overly difficult but thoroughly enjoyable, Westlake provides a balanced golfing experience.
The organization on the course was impeccable, with each hole presenting a reasonable challenge that tested my skills without overwhelming them. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition, making for a rewarding round of golf. The serene landscape and well-maintained facilities added to the day's enjoyment, reinforcing the club's appeal.
The Pro Shop offered a good selection of gear and advice, rounding out the pre-game necessities. Our visit to the Halfway House was brief but satisfactory, providing just the right refreshment to keep the spirits high and the game on track.
In Brief:
Westlake Golf Club encapsulates what golf should be about: the joy of the game, set against the backdrop of Cape Town's captivating scenery, with just enough challenge to make each shot count. Although my visit to the Halfway House was brief, it didn't detract from a splendid day on the course. I'm already looking forward to my next round here, a sentiment that speaks volumes about the...
Read moreTheir pro shop staff member is a disgrace to the image that the rest of the staff project, hence the low score. He's argumentative and unhelpful, a small example, The Travel Industry had a golf day, this idiot refused to issue copy receipts for golf cart rentals said if they want a copy to take the receipt to reception to make a photocopy before handing the original to collect the cart. This he did with numerous members. He charged one member R45 for a bucket 🪣 of balls When someone else asked for a bucket 🪣 he charged R90 for a bucket. When he was challenged, he said that R45 was for 1 bucket, which was what he was giving for the R90
However, the rest of the staff were superb. It's a pity that this moron in the pro shop had to invoke such a distasteful image of the club in my mind. The restaurant staff were amongst the friendliest and most competent I've encountered, even going as far as to keep me supplied with coffee ☕️ since, as the designated driver, I wasn't drinking
If it wasn't for the idiot in the proshop, I would have awarded 4½ to 5 stars It may be argued that the proshop is a separate entity. Unfortunately, it's part of the experience...
