I will be as transparent with my opinion without the fluff so that anyone who chooses to visit Sandy Bay clothing optional beach will know what you wish to consider before going. This beach is in a remote spot with no access to amenities, including toilets.
From the parking lot, you will walk uphill about 1/4 - 1/2 mile before walking downhill on unmarked paths created by other beach goers. You will be walking on a combination of sand, rocks, gravel and asphalt so be sure to pack water shoes for better grip in the sand especially. On the walk down, it will be about 25ish or so minutes but on the way back up, be prepared for a challenge because you will feel the burn in your legs as you’re activating your leg muscles. Degree of difficulty 1 to 5? Down 3, Going back up 5! My recommendation is to pack light to avoid the excess weight and reserve your water for the walk back up because you will need it.
Update on how instructing Uber: I later learned from a local that the Uber driver took me the wrong parking area. See the picture I posted of the correct location to instruct your Uber driver- add the SANDY BAY PARKING and from there you will walk along the coast to secluded beach. I was dropped off at the wrong spot and walked the horrid route down and back up along the mountain.
No access to toilets so avoid eating before you go to avoid the embarrassment of going in nature.
Overall it’s a nice beach once at the bottom and it’s remote BUT when I factored my hike down and back up because I was dropped off at the wrong parking lot, I’d opt for another sea where it’s more convenient. I gave 4 for the scene once at the bottom and if I had to rate everything else I explained, I’d rate 1 out of 5. Hopefully you may find this informational useful.

Read moreSandy bay is a undoubtedly a stunning beach. The surrounding mountains and rocks easily make it feel as though you’ve been transported to magical place. Obviously, the main beach does allow nudity, but I think the smaller beach right next door is a typical, clothed beach. In my personal opinion, if you do go to the nudist beach, just make sure to watch out for creeps. The amount of perverted men, engaging in just super gross behaviour right next to us, was honestly astonishing and uncomfortable. Which was annoying since we felt as though we weren’t fully able to enjoy the beach in peace.
In regards, to parking and actually accessing the beach, if you park near sand dunes (where Google maps originally led us when finding the beach) there is a 25 minute and semi-moderate 1.3km hike down to the water. However, there is a much easier, and flat 1.2km walk to sandy bay, via the sandy bay parking lot near Llandudno which I would much rather recommend for visitors. Unfortunately, there are no near public facilities, such as bathrooms close to the beach, so if you need to use the loo, make sure to do so before going (since, I think, the closest public bathrooms are the ones at Llandudno beach, which are a 10 minute drive away). Overall though, if you’re looking for a tranquil, nudist beach, I would recommend Sandy Bay, just prepare yourself to maybe...
Read moreSandy Bay is a nudist beach situated along the road between Cape Town to Cape Point and adjacent to Llandudno. Sandy Bay is not easily accessible. There are two ways to get the beach, one can clamber over the rocks from the car park at the southern end of Llandudno or take a 20-minute walk from the car park at the northern end of Hout Bay at. The car parks are rather small and parking is often insuffient - the only solution is getting there early or having to walk a little further. What a lovely beach!!! What a pleasant surprise!! Clean sand and secret!!! You have to 15-20 min to get to the beach. Easy walking path, in the nature, depending on where you want to lay down your towel. Besides the main beach (at the end), there are smaller coves and numerous spots (in the dunes or directly on the rocks) where you can enjoy the sun without having to worry about tan lines. The atmosphere is very peaceful. No hoots, no sound, no pollution, no ice cream sellers, no bars, surrounded by mountain from 03 sides ….. Only thing you can see in the front is Atlantic!!!! Remember this is a nudist friendly beach, NOT...
