We tried to find the Mackintosh falls via St Helier road. We followed the dirt track all the way down the Giba river valley until we passed under the N3 highway. We failed to take the Shayamoya branch off but eventually realized our mistake and backtracked a bit. We asked for a lot of directions and ended up above the Mlathuza river cascades, which is a good picnic spot. After more directions from others, we headed up river and under the highway to the Mackintosh Falls, which are spectacular. To get home we headed down the opposite side of the same river and took the Ndabushe trail which is steep until you climb out the valley above the N3 and then keep left until you head up the Giba valley back to the cars. Read moreThe roads were a bit rough getting to site as they are currently under construction but the workers seemed to making progress quickly. We paid R50 each upon entry which is quite feasible considering the amount of activities that can be done. Trails were well marked and easy to follow. Everyone was so friendly, the staff, hiker's, visitors etc. Lots of tuckshops and places to buy refreshments along the way to the waterfall. This place is a real gem and a must see for anyone wanting to cycle, swim, get in touch with nature, picnic and just have a good day 😁 It was nice to see so many people, young and old, enjoying the outdoors and enjoying the exercise. We will be back. Ps. Thank you for allowing pets, our 🐕 had an...
Read moreWhat a little gem hidden away off St Hellier drive. Took the kids along for a nice family walk, walk starts off with a slight downhill along a babbling river to your left. Trees lines the pathway on both sides creating a nice covered canopy, beautiful carved steep rocky cliffs and natural grassland slopes makes it a dreamy walk. There are two river crossing over bridges, take the time to listen to the birds chirping and river flowing along the pathway. We did spot a few unique insect species along the way.
If you are up to it take split and go and see the Mackintosh falls. For the more adventerious the path is Mountain Bike friendly.
Did Spot a lot of other families walking their dogs.
Will return again on a...
