I have heard so much about Krantzkloof Nature Reserve and finally got the chance to go hiking there recently. Have tried going before but never managed to get in as only a certain amount of people are allowed in so you need to get there by 06:00. Ok, i heard it was a tough trail but i didn't think it was going to be as rough as it was. This trail is defintely not for the faint hearted - we did the Molweni trail. You either going down steep slopes or walking up them. There are very few places that are flat. You have to climb over rocks quite often and you definitely need to move with a walking stick for the big spider webs. We crossed about 4 streams - had to take takkies off then put on again. We all fell at some stage of the hike. You definitely need proper hiking shoes. We walked for 6 hours and only did 10kms. It was definitely an experience is all i can say. If you are up for a challenge and fit you will enjoy it. As for me im not sure if i will ever go back again lol.

There is a limited amount of parking and the reserve allows a certain number of hikers at a time. Adults - R60, Kids under 12 - R30. The trail maps can be downloaded at the office. Beautiful place, which has 3 trails to choose from. All trails have waterfalls along the way. The trail we chose to do, Mphiti falls, was approximately 3km. We choose this route as we had kids with is. The other trails are 6km and 10km and not advisable for kids. The hike is very steep and at certain points at the top, it's gets very close to the edge of the falls. The area is exceptionally clean and there is no litter along the entire route. There are no toilets along the way or any facilities. Becareful when heading down to the falls and at falls, it is very slippery. There is a braai area with seating at the entrance. No alcohol is allowed. Follow the purple markers across road from where the entrance is. The route is clearly marked.

A beautiful nature reserve and recently just opened again after being closed to the public for a few years. This is an important natural asset in the EThekwini area. It has a range of biomes, from Scarp Forests, Riverine Forests to the highly threatened KZN Sandstone Sourveld Grasslands. Together these house an astounding diversity of fauna and flora. There are many sheer cliffs and many inaccessible areas. Birding is superb in this area and you could easily see the resident Crowned Eagles and other rare species. There are trails to waterfalls and also down to the river at the bottom of the gorge. If you are going hiking, best check beforehand which trails are open and take a map if you’re unsure of navigating. Rock climbing is another activity but check with the Mountain Club about which sites are currently accessible. A big thanks to Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife for excellent management of the site.

I love this place! Its a beautiful place with great views of nature, animals and a breathtaking waterfall.

They offer fun family friendly hiking trails for people with all levels of experience to enjoy.

Alot of butterflies, insects and birds can be seen on these trails, for the beginners there is a easy trail leading above a waterfall and through a cave which takes about an hours hike if you don't stop and look at the view.

For the more experienced hikers there is a trail that leads to the bottom of a beautiful waterfall. There you can expect to be alone with nature as not much people have the guts to take on the very steep down hill climb but it is absolutely worth it!

You pay a small entrance fee amount of R30 per person and can spend tge whole day there. There are designated picnic spots aswell.

It is absolute a fun way of staying in shape, keeping your health levels up and your fitness in tact. You will definitely enjoy the peacefulness and the sounds that nature pffers.

Be sure to grab a map at the main entrance and remember sun block! Bring a pair of binoculars with and a hat

Ask the local guide at the main entrance what the best route would be to fit your fitness level.

Very safe and secure parking but it does fill up quite fast so be sure to get there...

Torture. If u want to punish yourself try it. For families stick to picnic area. It is nice and fixed up since floods. But where is the tuck shop? It's a hiking trail, put an amenity shop.

Trails are clean which is how they should be . Maybe a different class comes here because Paradise Valley is disgusting. I honestly don't know how people can pay to see nature and destroy it.

Here is my complaint. Lots of very very dangerous parts and no infrastructure. I wonder how many fatalities this place gets. A cliff to your death is 1 m at some points. Where is the warning for oversized unhealthy people or the old or very young? And no one should do these trails without scanning the code to the map or without water. There is a warning about unprotected cliffs but who read that? A young couple said 'we don't need a map" yes u do. Because we caught up with them 1/2 lost and panicked. Take the map.

That trail to the waterfall is deadly if u wear the wrong shoes. So more safety policies are needed to prewarn people. The drop off need wire. Emergency buttons should be installed. Suppose you have an accident down there? My word. I am experienced and...

We decided to go here for a morning hike and brunch braai.

We arrived at 07:15 and were glad to see it wasn't too full as yet so we were able to park nicely. I've heard that the place fills up fast though, so better to be early.

The guards/rangers close the gates at 13:00 but if you're already inside you dont need to stress and you only need to leave by 18:00.

The map can be obtained by scanning a QR Code at the Entrance hut. The routes are all beautifully colour coded.

We were advised to not go on the trail (up and past the bathrooms) as it was very slippery from the recent rains.

We decided to do the Purple trail which ended at a beautiful waterfall ! The trail was also muddy, as is expected, but we have a really memorable time.

Braai facilities were also good but we brought our own chairs as the bench can be a bit uncomfortable after a while. Also very glad to see so many bins around.

The bathrooms however were a disappointment. We were glad to see water and tissue roll provided but they did not seem to have been cleaned and one toilet was horribly jammed and just...
