I finally managed to tick off another spot I've been dying to visit. Thanks to lockdown it's been over a year later, and in the cold. BUT I can finally say I made the trek at 5am to the weekly Pretoria Boeremark which starts at 5:30 until 9am every Saturday.
It was flipping cold, but we got there quick easily and even found parking pretty fast even though the cars just kept streaming in. It's a massive space of fleamarket type stalls filled with all sorts of produce, fruit, vegetables or even meat and poultry. There are flower shops, clothing shops and a vast array of food places, as one can expect.
Our main goal was 2 things, Roosterkoek and Vetkoek. We started our morning off with some Roosterkoek and Coffee to defrost. We had hoped the Roosterkoek was made fresh and given warm, and my cheese wasnt melted, but it was ok. Walked around, and bought breads, pickles, Baklava, Vetkoek and Mince, fruit and fruit juices.
The place is very Kid and Animal friendly, there are some play areas. Some shops even have little water bowls for the doggies.
The cutest find were the Pigs, Bunnies and Chickens, felt like being at the Dairy farm (without the stench)
I am so glad I made the trek and got to experience this place. I definitely wouldn't mind going again. It's very spacious, everyone has their masks on unless sitting and eating and drinking and they have sanitizers on entrance.
If you brave enough to wake up early go take a drive. Here are just some of the many pics I took, there is alot more and so many wonderful #SupportLocal options to choose from.
They all need our support. I used my Vetkoek today for a lekker Bacon and Egg breakfast
Ps. Word of advice - we took packets with in case we bought a few items but they have these roller flat trolleys to rent if you plan on buying alot or like heavy plants or bags or fruits etc at R10. Some just use it to drag their little ones all bundled up in blankets...

We do all our dairy shopping there—think rich farm butter, fresh milk, cream, and a variety of cheeses that taste like home. The spice stalls are filled with fragrant blends and oils that take your cooking to the next level. You’ll find everything from raw honey and fresh-baked breads to biltong, preserves, sauces, and handmade crafts.
There’s also live entertainment that adds a festive vibe to your morning—whether it’s a local musician strumming guitar or a marimba band bringing the energy. It’s the kind of place where you grab a pancake and coffee, sit under the trees, and enjoy the atmosphere.
It’s also incredibly family-friendly. There’s loads for the kids to do: pony rides, farm animals to feed, and wide-open spaces for them to run around. While they play, parents can relax, shop, or enjoy a variety of food and drinks under the shade of the trees.
Other highlights: Flower stalls with freshly picked blooms Handcrafted leather goods and woodwork Fresh herbs, plants, and seedlings Delicious breakfast options and fresh juices Dog-friendly (just keep your furry friend on a leash)
The Pretoria Boeremark has a little something for everyone. It’s where you see familiar faces, support local entrepreneurs, and leave with a full basket and a happy heart. A true Saturday morning tradition!
P.S. Please note that they also offer recycling services.

It’s one of those rare gems that effortlessly blends local culture, community spirit, and exceptional quality products into one vibrant marketplace. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the cheerful buzz of people from all walks of life coming together to celebrate good food, handcrafted goods, and South African tradition.
The variety of stalls was impressive—every corner had something unique to offer. Freshly baked breads and dough-based treats filled the air with mouthwatering aromas, while the meat selection was top-notch—tender cuts, perfectly cured sausages, and traditional biltong that was full of flavor. I also picked up some homemade butter that was unbelievably creamy and rich; it’s hard to go back to store-bought after that!
What made the experience even more special was the warmth and friendliness of the vendors. Each one was eager to share the story behind their products, and you could truly feel the passion and pride in their craft. It was heartening to see such a mix of people—families, tourists, and locals—enjoying the morning together, sampling foods, chatting over coffee, and supporting small businesses.
The Pretoria Boeremark is more than just a market; it’s a joyful celebration of community and culture. I left with a basket full of high-quality goods and a full heart. I can’t recommend it highly enough—whether you're a foodie, a local, or just curious, this is one place that absolutely...
