Buffalo Bay Beach, or Buffelsbaai, is an absolute gem along South Africa’s Garden Route, and I can’t recommend it enough! This Blue Flag beach is a haven for swimmers, with its sheltered bay offering calm, crystal-clear waters and minimal currents, making it one of the safest spots for a dip. Lifeguards are on duty during peak seasons, adding peace of mind. The swimming experience is phenomenal—schools of fish sometimes join you in the shallow waves, creating a magical connection with nature.

Beyond swimming, the beach is perfect for a scenic walk. Stretching for kilometers, you can stroll from Brenton-on-Sea to Buffalo Bay (about 7km round trip) or venture to the Wild Side toward Sedgefield for an 18km trek. The soft, white sand and crashing waves are framed by breathtaking scenery—dunes, rock pools, and distant cliffs. It’s ideal for whale watching (May to November) and spotting dolphins. The vibe is relaxed yet adventurous, with surfing and angling opportunities aplenty. Facilities like toilets, showers, and a nearby café enhance the experience, though parking can be tight in peak season. Buffalo Bay is a must-visit for its beauty and...

So my family and I went camping here for the first time again in many years and I can honestly say that nothing has changed.

The site is still immaculately clean. There are NO papers or rubbish laying around , the grounds themselves seem to be maintained fair enough.

The area feels safe. I had no problem letting our kids go off on their own to explore the site.

And let me tell you there are friendly people that clean the bins , braai areas etc EVERYDAY!

The bathrooms are clean. No mess on the floors , toilets and showers are clean and no odor hanging about. Yes it could do with a bit of an upgrade but I have no problem recommending this campsite to anyone and everyone that is looking for a relaxing enjoyable experience.

Walking distance from a lovely beach that does not seem to be too rough so kids are able to play happily in...

There is a beautiful walk on the beach from Buffalo Bay Beach to Brenton or visa versa. If one walks the entire beach there and back it will take 2.5 hours at a very comfortable pace. Choose low tide and then you will have lovely firm sand to walk on at a relatively flat surface. At both "Buffels" & "Brenton" there is a chance to stop and enjoy a small meal or delicious coffee. At Brenton you would have to walk up quite a steep walkway from the beach to the hotel coffee shop to enjoy this treat... but well worth the effort. Best beach in the area!...

Very nice beach with safe swimming area in the bay. There are public braai areas, and there is also a local restaurant at the main beach where you can sit down and eat while enjoying unspoiled views. The "kafée" (small shop) has some basics in it like foos, swimwear and toys. It's a very popular beach and parking is definitely an issue during high season. If you aren't renting a spot in the caravan park or hired a holiday home, I'd highly recommend getting there early in the morning to get a parking spot.

My favourite beach on the Garden Route. There is the rough sea on the western side and the quiet sea on the bay side. You can walk along the beach right around the bay all the way to Brenton-on-sea. Lovely family beach and surf spot. There is a shop and restaurant on the beachfront. Parking can be a problem during the holidays. There us also a beachfront eatery just before you enter Buffalo Bay wherr you sit with your feet in the sand.
