This is an awesome walk to attempt. Emphasis on attempt. I would like to caution all tourists alike that Gericks Point looks a lot closer than it actually is. I thought it would take me 10 minutes to get there from the beach. I hopelessly underestimated the distance and time it would take. The sand is really very soft, so your feet sinks into the sand and where you get to hard ground, you're walking over sharp, dead choral that could potentially cut deep. It's a 30 minute walk one way, so plan your journey well. I left as the tide was coming in and I must have chosen the worst time of the year to make the walk because when I reached the point, the tide was so high, it would have been dangerous to attempt to cross over. I'm sorry that I didn't get any pictures of this. If I'd have stayed a few minutes longer, I'd have been completely locked in by the tide - as seen by the high tide water mark.

My parting comment is be smart when you leave for the point, take walking shoes along and leave yourself enough time for the return journey before the...

This is my favourite place in the world. I've been going there since I was little (I live in Pretoria and frequently go on holiday in Sedgefield as I have friends who stay there). I love the views, fresh air and all the different routes for walking along the ocean.

I've taken my girlfriend there a couple of times and she couldn't believe all the different shells you can find, critters like starfish and crabs, squads and octopi, and I've even seen dolfins and stringrays!

It's a nice place to take the kids for a picnic or to spend the whole day, just make sure you google the times of the tides as you can only go during low tide and you can actually get stuck there if the tides rise while...

Excellent beach for kids and grownups alike. Go play on the long sandy beaches, go hike up to the point and explore for sea creatures. Be on the lookout for the tide so that it doesn't catch you off guard and block your way back.

For the more adventurous hike from swartvlei beach to Klein krantz or vice versa.

For the fisherman there are many spots to cast for a variety of fish species. You will find spotted grunter, elf, kabeljou...

Gericke's Point is a natural rocky outcrop at the end of Swartvlei Beach, located in Sedgefield along South Africa's Garden Route, rivalling similar natural points I've visited in Mozambique like Ponta do Ouro and Tofo. It is a sight to behold and about a 2km walk from the parking area at Swartvlei Beach. At it's foot are incredible rock pools, just mind the tide if snorkelling. A must visit if you're in the area!

Wow wow wow wow wow. Awesome place to visit and have a holiday. During low and spring low you can access some amazing rock pools and gather muscles for dinner. The rock pools team with life so take your goggles and snorkel along. A pair of garden gloves to hold onto the sharp rocks also help to move around the bottom of the pools and see what you can find.

Great walk to the point with interesting rock formations. Lots of little pools with marine life along the way, but the best are at the point. Go at low tide to enjoy them without waves crashing into you, and bring a snorkel. The view from the top of the point is excellent. It takes about 20min to track the point from the car park.
